Forums - Sony - BBC reporting that the PS3 slim will cost £249

Not really a big issue retailers are claiming Microsoft will raise the Arcade price in the UK for the 1st of September.

What about the Elite, will that stay at £230?

ASDA cut the price of current models to £249.99 with 2 games so that sounds about right.

There won't be a big cut in the UK due to the pound at the moment. I got my PS3 a year and a half ago for like £280 with a game :/.

due to the pound lol

NA pays like 180 pounds for a ps3 and Japan pay like 190 pounds for a ps3. And you say they are only going to 250 be cause the pound being weak. LOL

Its because so are greedy when it comes to europe

Sony also doesn't have to pay the huge import/export taxes for the PS3 models in the US and Japan.

Sony are doing what every other company does to the U.K. The U.K. only has itself to blame by not joining the Euro. The pound is finished as a viable currency.

Yeah, people can't wait to pay for XBox live.

It's the way it's always been mate. Hasn't helped the PS3 so far. With such a minamal price drop, it won't help it any more.

£250 for a great, reliable console, blu-ray player and free online play is a steal.

And £130/159/160 for stronger competitors products would be considered of even greater value.

I don't care what anyone says; this is cheap.
By september 1st, both the PS3 (120 GB Slim) and the 360 Elite will be cheaper than the Wii is here.

The price of everything in the UK is going up at the moment due to the pound, most topical being Nintendo raising the trading price of the Wii due to the margins on the pound not being good enough. Activision of course raised the MW2 price and other games followed suit, the PS2 price cut never made it here.

Further afield prices of electronics like TV's and Blu-Ray players went up, and industries where they pay alot of their spending in dollars have shot up, namely Festival ticket prices (I go Reading next weekend, it was a £20 rise :O).

The EU price cut is the same as the American (% wise), Britains will be smaller however due to the pound, as I said.

I agree with the point about Live. I don't think the average consumer takes additional costs into consideration when deciding which console to buy. Also, not everyone who wants a console will necessarily want to play online.

I think we need to wait until the MS press conference to find out what prices the 360 models will be (and which models will still be available). However, even though they will still be cheaper, a PS3 price cut will boost sales regardless. The blu-ray player and the 'Playstation' brand will help ofset the price difference in regards to value.

hmm, interesting, about what I thought the price would be.

I don't really understand.

£250 = 292 EUR atm, so it will still be cheaper in UK than in the Eurozone. Did people expect a higher price cut for UK?
