Last place this generation.

Do I sense bitterness?

No, it's just persistantly trying to hear the loons overstate the expected sales for something. E.G. Resistance 2 will sell more PS3's then God sort of tripe, it's like rashionality doesn't apply.

the problem is you read one person and then everyone on the internet with a PS3 is a loon to you. Its not persistant its just people focus on the morons, thats why sarah palin still makes headlines. Its more interesting to read ridiculous quotes.

It's still more expensive than the competition. The $200 price point is generally the sweet spot, so I doubt we will see the fullest sales power of the PS3 until it get's there.

This will only take a moment of your time. *steals your watch*

wow, so annoying that people say the slim is ugly. no offense susymar, its not just you.

who cares? they are same price for both so stop complaining.

And what? So now the ps3 is still the most expensive console, we have no more excuses left?
Whatever, we never needed any excuses. It has outsold the 3-6 in the same amount of time and is about par with the AAA games.

One thing is for sure the holiday sales will be interesting to see if ps3 can sell alot as many expect it to.

The PS3 outsold the 360 for most of 2008 until MS dropped the price. I expect the same thing again.

Now the PS3 has got the price cut, the games, the networking tools etc etc

Pretty much everything the 360 has.

So with that do those PS3 supporters now conceed there can be no more excuses in terms of how the PS3 does sales wise?

The main defence was always the price of the console. People would say "When the price cut happens xyz will happen". Wit lots of games to come people would say "wait untill xyz comes out" etc etc.

In my view that cannot be used anymore. The PS3 is a good console and now has a good price tag. Not as cheap as a 360 but not that far away from it.

PS3 from first week of September HAS to sell more consoles worldwide then 360 or i honestly do think that is it in regards to who takes 2nd and 3rd place this generation.

PS3 was outselling 360 handily week in and week out until the 360 got ITS price cut a year ago.

Exactly. It proved with a higher price it can outsell the 360 and now is no different. If it does not replicate that then to me it says that it can be whatever price and people still won't buy it.

The 360 has not really got a price drop just Elite replacing the pro and in some places that has even gone up in price i.e UK. So on 1st of setember here in UK a PS3 will cost you £249 and a 360 with an HD will cost you £199. Only £50 difference, the price of 1 new game. That is nothing.

IF the PS3 fails to beat 360 in that enviroment then as i mentioned before it is not going to finish 2nd this gen. It will be over. It will confirm Wii 1st, 360 2nd and PS3 3rd.

PS3 will be the best selling console when Sony buys 100 million of them and buries them in the New Mexico desert.

Any gamers on this site old enough to understand this reference?

I hope this new model sell very good because Sony deserves it, but I have a bad feeling because I fear this is another Gamecube case.

At this moment I consider PS3 as the best quality/price console (Blue Ray + HDD 120 + Wifi and free online) 299$.

The PS3 will end in last place anyway, rational individuals know this. However, who cares if it finishes last, it still has good games and LOTS on the way. Those who are one-sided should reconsider and try it out, and appreciate what the industry has to offer.

Also, unless you have a link, I don't recall anyone saying Resistance 2 would sell a-shit-ton of PS3s.

I think the TC knows this, but wants to deal with the irrationals as well. Hence why the $299/GT5 combo changing nothing would be sufficient evidence even for them to accept.

As you can see, it's not just Resistance 2. It's just getting predictable now and very sad, TC i imagine wants to set the goalpost firmly one last time.

This holiday season won't be telling. What will be telling is January-May next year.

The slow season is when we are really going to sort the men from the mice with regards to how the two companies will compete at new price points.

But I agree that as off now all PS3 fanboy's excuses are off the table. The console must perform now and not stop performing, or it's all over.

Actually, this holiday season will tell us a lot about the rest of the generation.  If the PS3 can outsell the 360 by 2 million units in Q4 2009 (like the 360 did to the PS3 in Q4 2008), then the PS3 still has an outside shot at catching up to the 360 by the end of 2011.  Even then, the end of 2012 would be a more realistic goal.

If the PS3 doesn't make up a lot of ground this holiday, it is extremely likely it will be in third place by the time the next consoles come out.
