Forums - Gaming - Capcom talks about Bionic Commando

And why it didn't meet their expectations.

"Our analysis indicates that the game elements were not well received by customers", he said, "and that our management of overseas subcontractors wasn't thorough enough."

"Establishing partnerships with subcontractors allows us to absorb their know-how and incorporate it into Capcom's own development process" the bossman said, consoling shareholders. "We will take what we learned from "Bionic Commando" and apply these lessons in the future."

Their management wasn't thorough enough??

Not the management, but the manner in which they managed sub-contractors...

Hm, Well, wasn't this game just average?

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

Pretty sure I'll be seeing the PS3 version for 15$ in stores soon with those current sales. I'll pick it up then.

They didn't micromanage the project, which should have been a positive thing (and also the point of subcontracting the game to an outside developer).

Rearmed was well-received (same developer) despite being essentially a decently priced remake of a classic developed and released to promote the first real sequel to an 80s game.

Having bought the game, personally I'm inclined to say that it just isn't a very good game and that nostalgia over an old game many probably have never played (might have played Rearmed at most) just wasn't enough by itself for success.

I'm not even going to blame Capcom's marketing effort since it received about as much hype and promotion as any other game they've released recently. Either nobody cared, or nobody thought the end product was worth buying.

Or maybe the franchise is so old that nobody gave a damn when it got announced.

It was $20 at Game Stop. I think that was the regular, non-sale price. At that price, they'll simply stop ordering the game assuming the initial production run of copies in warehouses aren't just being dumped to retailers at slashed prices.

20$ doesn't sound half bad... but I can wait a bit longer
