They're doing a changeover in SKUs, im not sure exactly what the plan is. For a 2nd Halo title I don't think they really need to build anticipitation 6 months out from release. I suspect a short sharp advertising campaign, perhaps even to coincide with their SKU reshuffle.

The other thing is, I suspect Forza 3 is their big title for the year and will get the mega $$$ in advertising.

They aren't the only one's doing a changeover eh Squallium?

I think it's almost certain in everyone's minds that this won't be a ground breaking or record setting game. Heck, I bought the Legendary edition of Halo 3 and I haven't even bothered preordering this game - or considered buying it near release. It will definitely sell well and make back more than the development costs (and then some) but I don't think anyone is setting (or should set) any major goals for this game.

The sales won't be poor with respect to other titles coming out this fall, but it won't be a huge phenomena either like Halo 3 was/is.

LOL.

Well I didn't pre-order Halo 3, but I pre-ordered and paid for the Halo: ODST Ltd edition, so I guess I balance you out, eh?!?

Im thinking it'll get 3M if its ok, 4M if its good and 5-6M if its great-excellent. Since I think its going to be good, probably 4M but theres always a chance it will exceed my expections. Firefight is the mode which may cause the game to stand or fall. The only thing I really want, is for the game to outsell Killzone 2s current LTD total in the first week! Its for the laughs and irony more than anything.

So we agree?

Tease.

It's going to do great no doubt, if it doesn't receive the massive numbers to start then the Christmas season ought to give
a nice boost.

^ Jagged: There have only been 600,000 pre-orders for Halo ODST in the U.S. and thats slightly less than Modern Warfare 2 and whats worst of all, they haven't really started advertising it and its 6 weeks away!!!!

If you need a shoulder to cry on, theres always Seece.

I was not referring to what sales data they used, I was referring to what constitutes "poor sales".

Haha. Balancing out the universe as always Squall

The game will definitely sell well. I just don't expect it to do Halo 3 (> 10 million) numbers. The problem with estimating this game is that it's a very unique case. It's a self-proclaimed expansion yet offers a full campaign, new multiplayer maps and modes and is priced at a full game price. Normally expansions rely on having the main game and a reduced priced but this isn't like that. It can be played stand-alone. I really can't estimate it because it's such a unique scenario. It could do anywhere between 3 and 10 million for all I know.

Your predictions are very reasonable indeed. As for selling Killzone 2 LTD within a week - 1.8 mill. Hmm... That sounds possible with the current preorder rate as well as how well Halo 3 sold at opening. It would be kind of amusing and I await your threads in response to whether it does/does not happen quite avidly. :)

IMO, both bungie and Microsoft want to make big bucks on this game. So they set the price point to the same as other full retail games, and keeping marketing small this time, so in the end they make much more money.

Actually Bungie have stated that they saw ODST as not a full title, it was Microsoft who insisted on the full price for the game. Despite this, although in the US its shipping for the regular price, in the UK at least its only shipping at launch for £35, and £30 in some places with an RRP of $40

(for Americans unfamiliar with UK sales prices, most full games ship for £40 with an RRP of £50)

I have no worries of this not selling well.

So because Microsoft are reminding people of the date, that means they're anticipating poor sales? So I guess when they advertise games, they must expect them to bomb, right? Seriously, why wouldn't they remind people of the date?

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

The problem that is going to drive down this games sales is quite obvious to any fan of the series. Three new maps is nothing less then a epic insult. Especially once you consider that the modes are what determines which of the maps you get to use. So for sixty dollars you might get a new map. The new modes seem interesting, but if they aren't translating to the old maps they are hardly of any real mention. Especially since you can already play poor mans versions in Halo 3 already.

This game will be worth buying if you do not already own Halo 3, or if you aren't up to date on your map packs. However if you already have 3, and have all the map packs then this is a really far more expensive then it ought to be. Basically it is the best customers getting the screws put to them. Honestly I am really weak on my desire to pick up this game its far too light in the value for me, and I am reasonably certain I will just be able to buy the one map I will pay for ten bucks in a few months, or pick this game up at half price after the sales really drop off after four or five months.

This is justification enough for Microsoft to not heavily advertise this game. It doesn't have what the real fans need or really want. Which is at the very least seven or eight new maps. A couple new game modes that apply to old maps. Some new weapons and items.

Originally it was supposed to be a smaller expansion. However bungie expanded it to a full campaign, added firefight which I can guarentee will get a ton of playtime from gamers, and all the other new multiplayer stuff which is why it was bumped to $60.

" Receiving far less attention than both Halo 3 and Halo Wars have prior to and since their respective releases"
Guarantee the shit outsells Halo Wars even with far less attention.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.
