Microsoft are intent on making sure you don’t forget that all-important date, having sent out another message to Xbox LIVE account holders declaring the arrival of the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers. Though whether this is a sign of the publisher acknowledging the tangibly lowered anticipation for the title or simply the intended next line in the marketing offensive strategy remains to be seen.
Receiving far less attention than both Halo 3 and Halo Wars have prior to and since their respective releases, Halo 3: ODST may not be the show stealing release Microsoft and developer Bungie have been hoping. Though the game will undoubtedly sell well, any chances of it being a record breaker seem decidedly slim at present, and the two companies responsible are undoubtedly aware of that.
The Halo series has been making videogame history for eight years, and with Halo 3: ODST you’ll have the chance to experience the fabled war against the Covenant as one of the bravest unsung heroes in the Halo universe - the Orbital Drop Shock Trooper (ODST).
Pre-dating the events that unfold in Halo 3, you’re dropped into the ruined city of New Mombasa under orders to get to the bottom of the Covenant’s catastrophic attack. The game includes new multiplayer modes that are sure to separate the strong from the weak, and the co-operative Firefight, a mode in which you and your friends combat wave upon wave of hostile enemies.
Halo 3: ODST will be available in both standard and limited edition releases, from 22nd September, 2009. Pre-ordering at a participating retailers will grant you a token unlocking Sgt. Johnson as a playable character in Firefight, and you’ll gain access to the Halo: Reach multi-player beta when it goes live.
