I could be wrong, so someone with internal knowledge of the retail please correct me if that's the case. As far as I know, they received in store discounts. From my understanding, whenever one of hardware manufacturers give consoles a price cut, they give retailers a credit on shelf inventory sold before the cut was initiated. That's why manufacturers let the on shelf inventory of retailers thin out before initiating a price cut.

Sony absolutely 100% will not continue to manufacture phat PS3s. There's no point in intentionally manufacturing a more expensive version of the exact same product.

Probably, it always happens with the Slim

If the slim is coming, they've already cut down nearly all PS3 Phat manufacturing except test units for development most likely.

OP: In time, probably, just like they did with the PS2. I never bought a slim PS2 though, I still have my fat one from 2002!

My mates PS3 fat is still going strong from launch but my gosh it runs HOT HOT HOT.

Weve had to move it once as it melted the cover to RFOM which was lying nearby.

hope so, that way mine will be more unique and cool, especially if the slim takes off sales wise, people will see mine and say "oh cool, you have one of the original big PS3's", that's my hope anyway, lol

If the slim offers the same features as the 60gig version of the ps3, then the fat will probably be cut out all together.

they will stop if a slim comes.
