Forums - Gaming - Media Manipulation : The "BULLSHOT" Phenomenon. Well worth reading.

What's amazing about this thread is that nobody creates more Hype threads using Bullshots pics more than Selnor.

The funny thing is, you posted this and then went over to the Mass Effect 2 graphics thread and joined in a graphics war, comparing Uncharted 2 bullshots to Mass Effect 2 bullshots.

Rule of thumb: if it's a screenshot being released by the developer/publisher/press, then it's almost certainly a bullshot.

To use the U2 versus ME2 bullshot war as an example, the Mass Effect 2 pic you showed was very obviously a bullshot (or else was from the PC version), because there was no aliasing on the character model at all, whereas - from looking at Mass Effect 1 - we know that in reality there'll be loads.

Looky at this Mass Effect 1 shot, after all:

Doesn't look like any of the press-released screenshots we've seen of Mass Effect, does it? That's because it's direct feed, and not a bullshot, and as such the aliasing isn't hidden. The texture quality also takes a hit, as you can see.

Woe woe. Stop Sony Fanboys. This thread was not a hit at any one game. The article hits most developers.

If anything the ME pic you post looks identical to the Bioware released ones except for res. The textures look identical. It's common knowledge that ME has amazing character detail. Gears is another game with top character detailing. UE3 is prime for that.

Seriously. Sony fans are kicking up crap here, you dont see 360 fans saying stuff because they diss Halo 3 in the article do you?

Interesting read. Reading through though I'd advise you just give the link next time!

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I see you're ignoring the part where I called all the Uncharted 2 screenshots as bullshots also?

I don't think you understood the point of my post. I was commenting on the irony of you posting this article on bullshots, whilst entering a graphics war comparing ME2 bullshots to Uncharted 2 bullshots.

I chose Mass Effect as an example not because it's on the 360, but because you had, mere minutes before posting this article, posted a Mass Effect 2 bullshot as if it were an accurate representation of the game.

Mass Effect's platform played no role in my choice of an example. I think you getting all defensive reveals more about your fanboyism than mine.

Ok I see your point. I literally found the article whilst posting so, it was kinda wierd then. I am a fan of the 360, I dont hide it. But I have always admitted when I love certain PS3 games. Cos in no way do I hate the PS3 itself. It's a great machine, piece of plastic that is capable of everything the 360 can do and vice versa.

Some games look very close to media released shots. But other companies like Bungie, Polyphony, SE massively beef their videos and screenshots up alot. Thats just a fact of the gaming industry.

@ selnor, those vids you are referring to are completely different. They are just CG, in no way representative of the game. Bullshots are mostly just rendered at a higher res, and then compressed, whereas CGI is just not done using in game assets, like the target footage for MS and KZ 2 at E3 whenever

oh the hypocrisy is strong in this one

this guy never played GT5 Prologue or uncharted?
that motion blur it's there.
