Forums - Gaming - Is this the typical "core" gamer?

A funny story today, I had a couple of usual customers that buy a lot of games come in today.  Both of them made comments that almost made me laugh in their face but I held it in.

First customer finally stepped into the current gen a few weeks back, bought a Wii, with a few games, he really enjoyed them but wanted a shooter so I showed him The Conduit, he picks it up, later he gets SMG, Trauma Center, and a couple of other games.  Another customer comes in and they're talking about games and I overhear him say that The Conduit is the best game on the system, I wanted to laugh and all, I tried to direct him in the direction of many games he'd probably like but The conduit is the only one he picked up so far, I'm hoping he tries some more games.

The other guy is a big HD console fan, buys all the hyped games even has the 150 dollar CoD MW2 reserved, rather obnoxious, but not as bad as his brother who is twice as bad as he. Anyway the guy has 5 kids bought all of them 360's cause "it's the only system his kids will play", he comes in and trades in his Wii with everything he had with it and some old games, turns out only 2 of those games were Wii games, me and my friend asked him why he wanted to to trade in his Wii, it's the typical question we ask when people trade in current gen consoles just in case we can convice them to keep it and buy some games they'll like, usually they don't but we get interesting responses typically.  This guy said his kids don't play it and that Chop Till you Drop was the best game he played on the system (one of the games he was trading in) and that he wanted the trash out of his house, I ended up smirking and asked him if he at least tried other games on the Wii and he was at a loss for words, I just respond "well you really can't complain about a system if you don't at least try the games" and finished processing everything.

I thought to myself the first guy sounds like your typical buyer that buys things he sees advertised as good and then goes and tells everyone that. The second guy sounds like a real life troll but he's also really behind the hype, so really is that all that motivates the core crowd anymore? Being told what to buy and what to try? Nothing against it many hyped games are good but these guys have missed out on some good stuff.

That's why most of the socalled hardcore are elitist casuals

It's the casualcore you experienced there. He clearly wants games with more depth to them than wii titles, but only wants the casual ones like call of duty.

This.

The ones that call themselfs hardcore are usually COD or Halo players. LOL. Pokemon is 1000 times more hardcore thn those games.

Do you want japanese voices in FF13 and Versus 13? Write to these guys and tell them: support@square-enix-usa.com

They're not hardcore gamers, we are. They're casuals. And perhaps the worst kind, because they won't try anything that looks kiddy. Well, the second one is. The first one is a regular casual. I bet you if the "hardcore" gamer owned a PS3, he wouldn't so much as GLANCE at LBP.

ditto

What is the story complaining about? The first customer, the second customer, the third customer, or the fact that you even ask about others' opinions on their trade-ins and then judge them for their answers?

I believe the problem people have with "hardcore gamers" is their snobby and elitist attitudes. Re-read your story. You're something of an elitist yourself.
