Forums - Gaming - Am I missing out big as a JRPG fan and as a Gamer? Chrono Trigger

I like to think that I've been gaming for close to 20 years now but I have to admit some of the more revolutionary titles I had missed out on because for a while I wouldnt play anything that didnt have Kill in its title. Well my question is I haven't played Chrono Trigger at all pass the opening scene. Am I missing out on something big? Is the hype and love behind Chrono Trigger worth me picking it up and playing it? I have the PS1 version and the load times are near unbearable. So can someone tell me. Is Chrono Trigger worth buying for the DS or is this one title I can look over?

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

It has a better battle system than most JRPGs today, and the art style is beautiful. Play it.

Yes its a good game with alotta fun storyline, and fun characters the art style is crap though ( i hate the artist's style behind Dragon Ball and Dragon Quest)

they are just too... crappy.

Buy or die!

So which is the better version?

Do I track down my SNES and a SNES copy? or bear with my PS1 copy or buy and find a DS copy?

A DS copy would be easiest to get, and you'd have the same level of fun wih any of them. I'd recommend the DS version.

the DS version had really weird dialog, the PS1 version is the most memorable.

but since you didn't try any of them than they're both good.

It's nothing special. The game wastes way too much potential in regards to time travelling and all the gameplay mechanics don't go beyond anything that you would consider to be standard in JRPGs. Worth playing, yes. Must play, no.

I love you..

Pixel Art can be fun.

I agree.  Not about loving you but about over-hyping the game.  The game was great during the SNES era, but over-hyping it will only lead to dissapointment.  While the story is very interesting, the battle system isn't as great as people seem to make it out to be.  The ability to have 2 or 3 people attack in combination is a nice novelty, but isn't that intuitive.  Often have 2 people use up their turn at once isn't much of a benefit over having the two people attacking seperately.

Okay... but as I once said to MontanaHatchet: "I like you too, but we won't have kids together. Sorry."

I love in the way a man loves his religion/god..
