"pushing Sony into the video game market from its niche as an electronics developer."

"Sony continues to be one of the most profitable and largest video game companies ever."

That was good for a laugh... Not that I expected any less after seeing Krazy Ken in first place.

My Mario Kart Wii friend code: 2707-1866-0957

I really disagree with this list.

It's like the sony hasn't dominated the gaming industry for the last 2 generations. Seriously people, for everything sony is doing wrong right now, they were everything gaming for the last 2 generations. The only reason so many people hate Sony is because of how successful they were.

This list is okay, it should only have Kaz though.

On a lighter note, I think John Carmack should be here. He is the PC's Shigeru Miyamoto.

Drink Cool-Aid much? I hope you were joking with the first part of your post.

I agree with you about Carmack. Read my first couple of posts in this thread. They're epic.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

The Wii series is among the most popular games in video game history. Which other new IPs this generation come even remotely close to this kind of influence?

Oh right, Nintendogs.

@digitalentourage: You are really a funny guy, although you may not intend to be one.

What? how are the people I listed funny? I don't get it. Do I need to make a list of reasons why? The entirety of the gaming world is not just the Wii, you really should get that into your head. Sales are not everything. Some of the most influential books and paintings were not the most profitable, and that certainly is true for gaming as well.

I'm not saying the wii or nintendo do not have the quality and influence as well, because they do, I'm just saying that because something didn't make that much money doesn't mean it isn't important.

Deus Ex (Warren Spector) For instance, will remain one of the most influential games of all time regardless of how well it sold. There is still nothing on the market today that is anything like it.

For someone to say John Carmack doesn't deserve to be on the list would also be hilariously stupid. Because of John Carmack we have the 3d games we do today, and games like gears of war, halo, call of duty all owe their respects to this man. Unreal Tournament would of never been were it not for quake and john carmack. Multiplayer FPS's in general owe their respects to this man, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM.

Will Wright is pretty much the reason casual games are profitable, he has made just as many gamers out of people turned off of the market as nintendo has, he's also a genious as a designer.

Gabe Newell and Valve software brought us the most successful PC games behind the Sims, the most successful FPS on PC of all time, Half-life selling around 10million units, half life 2 at about 7million, revolutionized class based multiplayer with team fortress 2 and brought us the best and most profitable digital distribution service Steam. Story Driven FPs's including everyone on vgchartz favorite halo owe major respects to Valve, and hundreds of indie and classical games breathing out of new lungs through the digital distribution service of steam while promoting creativity and sharing. Also, Valve have a gigantic influence in the mod communities, as well as promoting free content and supporting their games long after release with new content at NO extra charge. there is not a single developer on the face of the earth that cares more for their customers than valve. and Gabe Newell is the most known and most favorite member of valve.

Gary Gygax created RPGs. Every RPG, including jRPGs owe their existance to this man.

to me miyamoto is just about making simple FUN(yes i know this is why you like him)  games for simple gamers its great idea but he doesn't risk anything to move the industry forward... (please dont tell me Wii music,  that is just a little child's Rockband.)

he is like the popular pop star that is so popular around people but doesn't really do anything new other than being a popular person who have alotta fangirls/boys

i think if people can stop praising Miyamoto over and over than the world would stop turning, so i'll just leave it as it is.

to me people like David Cage deserve it more than Miyamoto , why ? because they risk it all to make it "different"

i am also puzzled to why the love of Ted Price suddenly came out, he have kickass games and have one of the best places to work in. but he didn't do anything new.

Resistance been done before
Ratchet and Clank been done before
Spyro been done before
Distruptor been done before.

not saying they are bad games mind you

Pullus, what do you define as "moving the industry forward" if Miyamoto does not do it?

Also, how can you possibly compare Wii Music to Rock Band? They're not similar in any way.

I think Koji Kondo has had more of an influence on game music than Nobuo Uematsu. I mean, he created the most recognisable piece of video game music in the world. And composed for what is considered to be the best game ever.

Yeah, but Uematsu is just better at making music. And he made the music of FF7 too.
