Forums - Gaming - 10 men who changed the gaming industry forever....

Allard? Risible choice.

The list is pretty poor but I do love Ted Price, even if he doesn't deserve to be in the top 10. He has been a perfect model of second party relationships...

I'd add Sakurai :D

@mai you can't deny that the gaming market more than doubled with the ps1.

I won't deny that it had increased, like it did these days. That's not the point. Market is growing permanently, there're new adopters every day. Are you consider that majority of those PS1 adopters, who never played a home console before, are even adults? Seriously, how old were you when you got your PS1? Even Wii with it's "Wii is for kids" image attracted more adults than PS1 back in those days thanks to family-oriented and fitness software.

This list fails for lack of Gunpei Yokoi: creator of the Game&Watch, Kid Icarus, Metroid, and most importantly of all the NES and Game Boy. The man very likely did more gaming than anyone on the list -yes, even Miyamoto- and then got tossed aside like an old rag in what is probably the greatest sin against gaming that Nintendo (or perhaps any gaming company) has ever committed.

No, no, no! Gunpei Yokoi did not create the NES! That was Masayuki Uemura.

Why do people put people like Ken Kutaragi, Kazuo Hirai, and Allard on the list for consoles when the creator of the console that saved gaming gets no recognition. The NES/SNES were more influential and allowed for more new games and ideas then any othe console ever. He was also the first person to successfully get people to transition from one generation to the next. he should be up there with Miyamoto and Yokoi.

Third Gen - 73 million units

Fouth Gen - 94.77 million units (30% increase over previous gen)

Fifth Gen - 148.23 million units (56% increase over previous gen)

Sixth Gen - 188.59 million units (27% increase over previous gen)

Seventh Gen (so far) - 106.75 million units

The home console market doubled from the third gen to the fifth gen (73 to 148).  It doubled from the fourth gen to the sixth gen (95 to 189).  It has never doubled in one generation as you claim.
