If keeping with the Pounds = USD pricing Sony seem to use that would put the PS3 at $249 here, the price of a Wii.

I don't see how Sony has a 1:1 on the pound and dollar. In the US the PS3 is $399 (or maybe a bit less), and in the UK for the same model its £289-299. If that £50 price will become worldwide price cut, expect the US price to drop to $300, not $250.
