I'm wondering if some of you guys just read more than the bolded statements above.

The main demographic he is speaking of- no one here is a part of. Unless you guys have the opinion of some 5-12 year old you can relay to me, you only represent one side of the spectrum.

I will quote my 8 year old cousin, who owns Sonic Unleashed on Wii.

"The parts where you be a werewolf are gay".

That's all the proof I needed LOL

I don't know SEGA, Nintendo seems to be doing that just fine with some of their core titles

"Kinect" Games I am really excited about (Click for videos)

kids do buy just about any game.... or at least their parents do when they make gifts.

The thing is that a barely average game from now has more to offer than some of the decent games of the past because they have such a large list of titles to take inspiration from.
Nowadays crappy games actually do have merit and are likely enjoyable by many people... especially if these people don't have many references to compare the games to. The only reason some games suck is because the reference next to them is much higher.... probably why many people fail to understand how one can be in adulation for some NES or SNES gen games when they don't necessary seem all that great, it's because at the time, the reference ladder was different.

Sonic team should try doing some old school sonic with no fancy ^^

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

Why do people b!tch and moan and pick every game apart?
Give Sega a break. At least they are trying to put out a good game.
And the Sonic games havent been that bad, its a lot better than some of the sh!t out there.

Its better to have tried and failed, right. And every failure is stepping stone to success... And all that stuff...

Give them credit for trying to give you something good to play!

A werehog isn't trying, that's why. If they removed that, Sonic Unleashed would be a fantastic game. What Sega are doing is showing us that they can make great Sonic-games, only to put stupid gimmicks and annoying side-characters in to ruin the game for us.

Okay, i havent played Sonic Unleashed yet, But cant you look past that (werehog), and see just as the great game you said it would be? They tried something new, which was perhaps a mistake. Surely one gimmick cant ruin the entire game?

The bad thing is that the Werehog parts take like 2/3 of the playtime/game.

"And yet, I've realized that maybe living a "decent" life means you won't ever have a "good" life."

@Son1x:

Ah, point taken.
Now, really need to try Sonic Unleashed

When I was 7, I could tell that games such as the NES's Friday the 13th, Cabbage Patch Kids and The Karare Kid were bad. There's no excuse, really. Any human being will dislike what they dislike and to say that kids have low standards is just arbitary nonsense from older fans.

Sonic games will suck not because SEGA appeals to 12 year olds but because they're being released once or twice a year to meet revenue quotas.

When I was sevenish, I thought Friday the 13th was one of my favorite games. I thought Jaws was also. I played them and Punch Out a ridiculous amount of time. I didn't know the difference in quality between them. Now I do.

So with this large amount of anecdotal evidence, we can conlude that 50% of children cannot tell the difference between a masterpiece and a piece of crap.

I am on that same boat. I thought that game as absolutely amazing and probably because of my love for the Friday the 13th series of films I would watch on USA every Friday the 13th that occured every year. Yeah I would never beat it, hell I couldn't even make to the houses in time before the poor counselers were killed, but I would keep popping that old NES cart in and play it again.

I wasn't a big fan of the Jaws game though but I have a cousin who was obsessed with it when we around 7-8.

As for your last sentence, I think over 50% can't tell the difference to be honest.

@Kyliedog

I have played the Wii version of Unleashed and they did away with the open world part. Everything in towns, etc... are a simple point and click on location followed by short text based chatter from residents giving you info on what to do next. You should check out that version, it is much better in my opinion.

I actually enjoyed Sonic Unleashed although the Werehog parts weren't so great, but I was able to deal with them. The daytime levels however in the Wii version are all straightforward and a ton of fun.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

All sega needs to do is drop 3 things from sonic and they can please everyone, the butt-rock soundtrack,
annoying characters and bad story, kids don't like these, in the old transformers how did kids like more, Grimlock or Wheelie?
why is wolverine the most popular character among the x-men? Kids don't like the annoying characters, no one does, they aren't appealing to anyone with them. Furthermore do they really think that those awful stories are enthralling anyone?
and fix the level design, drop the grinding , blind cliffs/pits/death drops (check sonic 1,2,3,cd, and & knuckles pits are a rarity), and the hold right to win garbage and put back in platforming and multiple level route,
3 things and sonic's will be great again
seriously 5-12 year olds like great games, my little sister is 6 and she knows contra: hard corp (granted she describes it as the game where she plays as a girl and I play as a robot) is a better game than the licensed games they make for young girls these days, literally arguing with her friends over how much better it was than the horsez or whatever game one of her friends from 2nd grade was playing

oh off topic, @wordsofwisdom, you're right playing as brownie in contra hard corp does make the game a cake walk

I HAVE A DOUBLE DRAGON CAB IN MY KITCHEN!!!!!!
