Whats up with DLC for games, a great example is the new Fight Night Round 4 DLC, for 10 $ you get a few new fighters, should that really cost ?

last gen we had no DLC so those fighters would probably have been included in the game from the first place.

To me it just seems as the companies are trying to milk some more $$ from the costumers, a game with all DLC could be up to 90$(game:60$) what do you think?

The idea of downloadable game content is wonderful. Every since there have been computer games, there have been expansions that provided meaningful additions to the game. The expansions for Oblivion, Fallout 3, and GTA are all testaments to this. Downloadable songs are a natural extension of a game like Rock Band or Guitar Hero.

But the way its been handled this generation, by and large, is ridiculous. There was one RPG where you spent a few bucks of real money and leveled all your characters to the max. That's something that would have originally been a cheat code. The recent Tiger Woods game had downloadable courses for PS3 and 360 that were clearly ready when the game launched because they were on the Wii disc. Unacceptable.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

good point there with the comparison to the expansions, didn't think of it that way, and i agree with you on tiger woods game, exactly what i was aiming for , those kind of DLC's, there could be tons of stuff which are ready at launch but not included in the game and later on released as DLC with out us consumers not knowing it

DLC recently is a joke. I remember when expansions like in everquest would add a whole new continent and hours of new content. I was pissed when I bought the DLC for mass effect. it was 1 damn mission. If it was a 2nd playthrough or something when i was really good at the game i would have breezed through it in 10 minutes. but since i sucked it took a while. but the dlc was available my first playthrough. DLC these days is just plain BS.

I'm divided on the issue. I think that it will lead to game companies nickle and diming us to death. Or to make games impossible (or nearly so) but you can "BUY" dlc that will make it possible to finish for mere mortals.

But at the same time, I like the idea of being able to pay $10 to try a game, and then pay more if I like it, or stop there if i don't like it.

I dislike most DLC. Though there are some exceptions. The Banjo-Kazooie DLC was supposed to be on the disc, but it was not finished for release. I didn't care about paying for it because it was only $5 and the game itself was only $30

would really like to see some revenues from DLC, think its major bucks

DLC nowadays is a joke. DLC is so piecemeal that you think the content is reasonably priced, until you realize you just spent $100 on a single game, and $40 of that was spent on minimal content. You pay for map packs, costumes, a single new singleplayer level, additional gameplay modes, and horse armor.

I miss the days of expansion packs, where you really got your money's worth. Starcraft: Broodwar was $30 at release, introduced several new units that completely changed the way the game was played, and on top of that, gave the player a whole new single-player campaign that rivaled the campaign from the original game.

would be fun to hear some more oppinions or is there already such a tread like this ?

I really don't like the direction devs are going with nickel and diming the consumer.
