SE sold out this GEN

How so? Letting MS give them money since Sony demanding it be exclusive doesn't pay the bills? Honestly....

Hmm... well, through the SNES days, I probably would have said Square. But then Square crashed hard and sold out in the PS1 era, which Enix didn't do. So I'm going to have to say Enix is the better one. They remember what it takes to make a good game, and that it's not just throwing pretty pictures on a screen. I can't help but be worried about the future, though, since while Enix technically bought out Square, it looks like more of Square is coming through the games.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but are you serious about this one? How did Squaresoft sell anyone out? Beyond that, what bad games did Squaresoft make in the PS1 era?

Yeah, I'm serious. Square sold out to graphics. I personally think that FF7 is a travesty. (Yet somehow, they made FF8 even worse.) The game is painfully easy, too linear, and doctored up, all to sell to the masses instead of the games they used to make. It's also when Square started trying to diversify too much, with the entrance of their fighter... and there was something else too that I forget. (Before anyone says something, yes, I know that they did other games such as Rad Racer before FF1. I'm looking at after they became an RPG powerhouse.) I saw FF9 as a throwback to those of us who remembered the days of yore, but it only showed me one thing- they forgot how to make those games addictive like they were in the SNES days. But they saw the higher sales and never looked back. Now it's a case of budgets spiraled out of control again, just like so many other companies that I don't care about. My thoughts on FF13 now? Meh, not interested.

Square Enix, themselves, has never actually made any of those remakes. They always outsource them to a smaller company to do it. They did the same in PS1 era, and still do it today. They do it now, because they can afford to sponsor projects for them by other devs.

The creative team that makes the main games is still there.

Enix, they made Actraiser if I remember correctly.

The quality IS there, but the number of games they are using it for is dwindling by each generation. As this happens, there is also more ports, remakes, and spinoffs each generation. I could probably name a few good new ips a year from Square Enix starting from the start of the Snes to the end of the PS1. Then maybe 1-2 once the PS2 comes buy. Now I could probably only name 4-5 since the generation started, half of those probably not even releasing out of Japan. Instead they would rather use their resources(even if they don't develop it) on spinoffs of spinoffs, and ports of remakes. Not only that, but we won't be seeing any main series games until about 3/4ths through this generation. In comparison, they've always released 3 numbered Final Fantasies until the PS2(I don't count FFXII because they used the number only to get sales, same thing for XIV). This generation we get 1 numbered final fantasy and tons of spinoffs of that final fantasy. That is pretty pathetic imo. To be honest, why couldn't they make versus FFXIV? It was probably because they thought(or maybe still think) that FFXIII will make a name for itself larger than any other final fantasy, and they want their other games to thrive off of it. They know it works, because they did the same thing with FFVII. The enix part of the company is also in the same situation, except they never made their games in the first place so we still see more from them than the square part. So yes the quality is still there, but the quantity isn't, and we are waiting a hell of a long time for the quality to come. Btw this isn't to say that those spinoffs and remakes aren't fun, no of course not, but there is just so many spinoffs you can play and you can only buy a game so many times before you get tired doing so. Hopefully after they finish the sink hole that is the FFXIII series they could get somewhat closer to their former self.
