Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft getting owned outside of gaming too

The Zune isn't that bad.

Also, this thread is flamebait.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

LOL on Manos getting banned...the sign is insulting...but it is devilishly funny...I felt horrible about laughing at it. M$ is having it pretty rough, but so did Intel a few years back...and look how that turned out. Great companies rise to the occassion and previal...let's see what Windows 7 can do.

Oh how the mighty have fallen, I'm sure Microsoft will come back somehow, but probably not in a way that we would expect.

How has MS fallen, exactly?

It appears you didn't read any post in this thread before you decided to make your false statement.

MS has nothing to come back from...

90% of Google's revenue is coming from search advertising. Every 1% that microsoft takes is huge for them. In the last 2 months MS search grew 2%... If Bing stays at this position and doesnt go up or down in market shar, thats about 200 million dollars over a year long period that MS just made and google lost.

Well, they're just not as big of an influence as they used to be.  When it comes to operating systems, you have Apple and Linux, when it comes to media players you have the ipod, when it comes to web browsers you have Firefox and Chrome, etc etc etc  I'm not saying Microsoft is completely desolate, just that they are not the huge, influential company that they used to be.  Although, I did hear they were making a free web version of Office, so maybe that will help them get back into the minds of people.  All I know is, they have a lot of work to do to become a favorite of not only regular everyday consumers, but also of businesses as well.

2nd place (which is not guaranteed yet) is a BIG loss to microsoft because:

1.They launched thier console 1 year before the others, so they had headstart,if they launched 360 at the same time PS3 and wii were launched, they would be thrid
Actually if anything they would have demolished the PS3 even more. An extra year of development for the 360 would have meant launching at a lower price with improved reliability.  The only reason the PS3 exists still as a contender is because of the 360's early hardware issues.

2.they were 1st place but they dropped it, even though they had 6 million lead

Nothing can stop the Wii, especially when it was $150 cheaper for the whole year and a half.

3.They were being outsold by PS3 untill the price gap was again 200 bucks

And were outselling the PS3 every week until the PS3 dropped the price by 200 bucks to be just $50 more expensive than a 360.

4.They were first in Japan, now they are last

Wow, that was the stupidest thing I've ever seen someone try to use against the 360.

5.They are barely 2nd in europe, even though PS3 is much more expensive

Attention: FANBOY post above me has NO bearing towards the OP since the subject is about "outside of gaming"

erm....I guess 3rd place is an even BIGGER loss for Sony since they were first place last gen.

some people were talking about 2nd place not being bad in first and 2nd page, my replay was for them

and i am not talking about last gen, i am talking about this gen

Oh so only one company per business category is allowed to be considered "doing well" or succeeding. I coulda sworn you didn't have to be in first to be doing well. And I'm pretty sure second place (even if you demolished all the lower participants) is a pretty high regard in any race.

You don't HAVE to be knocking on #1's doorstep to be doing well. Just a thought.

Let's see:

The best they've done outside of Windows/Office is a distant second place, they've made virtually no money, and all they've managed to do is best competitors who aren't doing that well to begin with.

I don't know about you, but if I were in a race with two other people, and I ended up in 2nd place 5 laps behind the 1st place racer and a few fractions of a second ahead of the 3rd place racer, I wouldn't be too happy.

Wait, are you talking about microsoft as a whole?
