^^MS has a rather large gaming advertisement studio as well.

Massive Incorporated.

They made a big deal with Battle.net to handle the ads over that as well.

Yeah, I know. MS is an advertising monster across all online channels. I work with MS online advertising. Google as well...but they are a 1 trick pony (search)

Nice.  I have dealt with MS and Google for software services, MS was more than willing to extend the functionality of their services to fit our needs whilst Google was reluctant to do anything for us.

I think this has to do with their hiring policies. MS tends to hire hungry people driven to succeed. Google needs 2 university diplomas for you to even walk in to their building.

MS - lets make it work

Google - lets follow rules we laid out as we know best

Since when is 2nd place = losing? They are beating Yahoo and every other search engine besides Google. They are beating every console besides the Wii. 2nd place does not mean they are the losers.....

A distant second place is certainly losing, especially when you've failed to make any money overall.

The only system that the 360 has managed to outsell all generation is another poorly selling system(the PS3), so that doesn't really make a good case for it.

Their search engine is far behind Google, and the Zune doesn't pose any more of a threat to the iPod than any other portable media player, second place or not.

I'm just saying this person writing the article is being an overly dramatic MS hater.  If you look at all the other competitors in these markets, MS is winning compared to all of them.  The articles written for those corporations would look much, much worse

No, they aren't.

As I said, doing better than other products and services that aren't really making a whole lot of noise doesn't make much of a case for MSFT doing well. If MSFT's search engine was giving Google problems and/or if the Zune were posing a significant threat to the iPod of if the 360 was keeping pace with the Wii, then you'd have case, but until then, you don't.

MSFT may make tons of money, but that's almost entirely attributed to the fact that they have an OS that's bundled with 95% of PC's on the market.

When that isn't the case, MSFT doesn't do very well in a consumer-based market because it's not a very creative or innovative company.

Oh so only one company per business category is allowed to be considered "doing well" or succeeding.  I coulda sworn you didn't have to be in first to be doing well.  And I'm pretty sure second place (even if you demolished all the lower participants) is a pretty high regard in any race.

You don't HAVE to be knocking on #1's doorstep to be doing well.  Just a thought.

2nd place (which is not guaranteed yet) is a BIG loss to microsoft because:

1.They launched thier console 1 year before the others, so they had headstart,if they launched 360 at the same time PS3 and wii were launched, they would be thrid

2.they were 1st place but they dropped it, even though they had 6 million lead

3.They were being outsold by PS3 untill the price gap was again 200 bucks

4.They were first in Japan, now they are last

5.They are barely 2nd in europe, even though PS3 is much more expensive

Attention: FANBOY post above me has NO bearing towards the OP since the subject is about "outside of gaming"

erm....I guess 3rd place is an even BIGGER loss for Sony since they were first place last gen.

Being in 2nd feels so much better than being in 3rd

some people were talking about 2nd place not being bad in first and 2nd page, my replay was for them

and i am not talking about last gen, i am talking about this gen

My oh my. How did this thread reach past 2 pages, much less 8 pages...I suppose a thread filled to the brim with BS would happen that.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Um, Sony appears to be the one losing right now.

Oh how the mighty have fallen, I'm sure Microsoft will come back somehow, but probably not in a way that we would expect.
