The conduit raised the bar all the way to the GC level, snowdog.

Whilst the Rogue Squadron games were visually very impressive and contained a great deal of bump mapping they didn't (as far as I remember!) include gloss and diffuse mapping, depth of field, focus blur, real-time reflection and refraction, advanced particle effects and HDR lighting. Technically The Conduit is a masterpiece. The only thing that let it down was the art direction and level design.
And the horrible puzzles in the wall of course

Why is it that this Patriot guy is always talking about the Wii's power?
Here's a saying in the industry "developers are going to do what developers are going to do, because that's what they do and how they are going to do it."
Currently enjoying: Monster Hunter Tri.
Because Patriot thinks that the wii is a technical powerhouse (how he thought that I have no idea) or maybe he is a one console kind of guy..er girl what ever he it is (LOL). Anyway was I the only one that thought for all the bravado that the conduit looked kind of underwhelming? Lair failed because Lair sucked not because of the controller Patriot, sometimes we have to put aside our inner fanboy to see the light. Rogue Squadron is an has been the best looking Nintendo game to date, galaxy was great looking but it did not have the technical brilliance that Rogue Squadron had on the GC.
Wii has limitations. But Rogue Squadron 3 makes most Wii games look really ugly. It's because Wii is getting low effort PS2 ports from 3rd parties though.

Those things are all there, but did they make the game look any better? No. Star Fox adventures, released in 2002, looks much better. Different type of graphics, but it still looks BETTER.
My *problem* is that I simply don't think the Wii has much room to improve over, say, SMG and SSBB, and I am also very disappointed with the graphics in, say 99% of Wii games, including those published by Nintendo (with the notable exceptions).
This is why I've been so... anti-Wii? Lately. The console promised a lot but I was foolish to believe it.
"The console promised a lot but I was foolish to believe it."
The promise was not about tech. It's working on the promises it DID make.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs
Wii has some of the best graphics compared to the 8bit consoles and those were awesome you could use different colors!
