metal gear solid 4 selling 4.1 + and still selling.

I am struggling to see lifetime sales of 9 million for a variety of reasons. Outselling Halo 3 is pretty unlikely.

Its possible, but quite unlikely imo.  Maybe it will if they bundle the fuck out of it (and Halo 3 doesn't get any major bundles besides the elite one)

halo 3 is not the top sold hd game. it's GTA4. 11 million units.

This. I don't know if people largley under-estimate Halo 3, or largley over-estimate Gran Turismo 5. The only way I can possibly see Gran Turismo doing better than Halo is if it starts being bundled with every single PS3 on the planet for the next two years.
