Forums - Sales - Why do people say Gran Turismo isnt big in NA??????

Maybe because the last full GT game only outsold the last full Forza game by 300k?

Oh I dunno just maybe ..

yes, all GT main games have outsold halo.

Actually only 2/4 have outsold Halo 3.

By VGC numbers, that is true.

By the end of next year it will be 4/5.

Wow Squilliam, comparing a spinoff to mainline series games and ignoring that one game was heavily bundled in America AND counting GT: Prologue as a prequel to GT5? I hate to say it, my good sir, but that was complete and utter fail. Make a better attempt next time.

Considering the ratios also hold fairly steady with GT4 I don't see the problem.

GT4

  • Japan: 1.16
  • America: 2.76
  • Others: 5.72

Relative sales of the PS2 as at end of 2004:

  • Japan:
    17,570,667
  • America:
    30,753,618
  • Others:
    28,099,673

Relative sales of the PS3 as at now:

  • Japan:
    3,317,247
  • America:
    8,983,978
  • Others:
    10,779,385

So you can see the attach rates are actually fairly comparable.

Erm, no they're not. You just contradicted yourself and made no sense.

Seece is absolutely right. GT is big. Over a million bundles and Forza is still 300k behind (600k, actually). Wowzers.

You can't use Forza as a means to say GT is big because Forza (as you said was bundled) so in reality it did shit. GT is huge but its not a killer app for America.

Why certain people have to bring WW and Halo into this I don't know ...

GT4

  • Japan: 1.16 (7% attach)
  • America: 2.76 (9% attach
  • Others: 5.72 (20% attach)

Gran Turismo 5 prologue

  • Japan: 0.57 (17% attach)
  • America: 0.67 (7% attach)
  • Others: 1.75 (16% attach)

Relative sales of the PS2 as at end of 2004:

Do you see it now? Theres absolutely no contradiction here, you're going to withdraw your statement you made earlier about fail?

Tease.

Oh, I retract my statement. Flawless logic. So, Gran Turismo 4 was released in Japan near the end of 2004, and didn't even see its American/PAL release until February/March of next year (respectively). So, essentially, you're taking a userbase from before the game even got a worldwide release.

This is, of course, in comparison to Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, which has been out for about a year and a half (depending on what territories you consider, and whether or not I'm lazy).

But you're right, the comparison is flawless.*

*My other unanswered points notwithstanding.

Well I would say its pretty big since GT5 will most likely be one of America's best sellers.  I would also say that GT is to America as Halo is to Europe/Others.

Why are you so sarcastic and snarky?

Anyhow, all I said was that it indicates expected performance because of the variables precluding anything 100% conclusive. The point I was making was about the relative attach rates between the PAL and NTSC regions. Do you remember the title of this thread? 'Why do people say Gran Turismo isn't big in NA???????' have I not given a reasonable answer?

Can someone not take the relative performance of GT5p/GT4 between the different regions and make a point about the expected distribution of sales for GT5? If I had taken more accurate data points I doubt that it would have changed the conclusion significantly or at all.

I'm being sarcastic and snarky because you said something egotistical. Arguments on Vgchartz are serious business. That said, Gran Turismo is huge in North America. Any series that can sell millions of games in any region is definitely "big."
