I'm looking at your profile, and you don't even own a PS3.
The game is still great. I just played the dinosaur city level on PSN, it was lots of fun.

It's good, but I think that the campaign is the best part of the game. I would give it a 9/10. The jumping and platforming in general is leagues behind Galaxy, and while the online and user generated content...and charm...go a long way to make up for that, I still think that if LBP is one of the greatest games ever, than Mario Galaxy(or64) should be THE greatest game ever to the person stating that. They are better games. Also, I'm not a "huge" platformer, but of course, I do enjoy the best games in that genre, like Braid, Galaxy, LBP, and even Splosion Man. It seems like most people just beat LBP once, and put it down. That might make it the greatest rental ever, but it just doesn't have the longevity of a game like Mario Brothers, imo. For some reason, I love it while I play it, I'm glad when I beat it, and afterwards, it felt like I had been forced to do so. I find that people give immensely different reviews WHILE they are playing the game, than they do AFTER they've beaten it(1st or 2nd time). |
Speak for yourself. I "beat" LBP back in December, but was most recently seen playing it today, for over two hours.
I think people only beating the story mode then comparing it to a 2D Mario game are kinda missing the point.
It seems to be like most people just beat Ocarina of Time once, and put it down. It's not really true, I can just say it and hope no one questions it.
Seriously, Little Big Planet is a game with a huge online community and tons of content.
Seriously though... i can't get over the floaty like physics.
I mean... up until LBP that was like a deal breaker on platformers.
Floaty platformer was generally considered like... negative due to lazy programming.
I'm surprised so many people are willing to overlook it.

1. Why do you type like that? Not to be rude, it's just something I've always wondered.
2. The floaty physics aren't that bad. They can result in some cheap deaths, but they're overall not that big of a difference. Just learn to time your jumps.

1. Not clue... just always have. Thing I played too may games when I was younger where they used those damn "...". Really was overused in the NES era.
2. I've never really had a problem with it killing me wise. It's just uncomfortable and floaty. A good analogy would be when your playing an RPG but the overworld map character walks too slow.
I mean the problem with it in the old days wasn't that it would screw up your jump. It's that if you screwed up your jump it took forever for your guy to land.

I think people are willing to overlook it because the levels are designed to take it into account. Like the bit with the swaying podiums on Boom Town. Or swinging between hanging sponges and stuff. You have a lot more leeway when moving around in cases like this than you do in most platformers, and floaty jumping is a result of this.
Not to mention, slapping your friends around for hilarious deaths then mocking them with a giant grin on your face totally makes up for any shortcomings found in the jumping.
Edit: Oh yeah, and the walk/run animations are just so cute. I love inching closer and closer to a friend, then slapping them right in the face.

I guess.
For me... a platformer starts with it's jumping. Since that's well... the very core aspect of a platformer.
