I think people are willing to overlook it because the levels are designed to take it into account.  Like the bit with the swaying podiums on Boom Town.  Or swinging between hanging sponges and stuff.  You have a lot more leeway when moving around in cases like this than you do in most platformers, and floaty jumping is a result of this.

Not to mention, slapping your friends around for hilarious deaths then mocking them with a giant grin on your face totally makes up for any shortcomings found in the jumping. 

I guess.

For me... a platformer starts with it's jumping.  Since that's well... the very core aspect of a platformer.
