Final Fantasy VI is the best! Close second is tied with IV and IX.

IV and VI are my favourites, but I unfortunately haven't played VI for a long time. Is there a DS version coming out any time?

Square never returned to that operatic format that made that game feel so big. It's one of those few games that, having played them, I feel like people who haven't played them are uncultured

FFVII is the best.

Best can have 2 definitions: 1) The best when it came out (time sensitive) or 2) the best overall (not time sensitive)

for #1: I would have to say what most others would and go with Final Fantasy VI
for #2: FFXII - it has the best graphics and gameplay of all of them. I, however, was dissapointed by todays standards. The series's gameplay seems to have stagnated and is simplistic compared to games like Baldur's Gate.
