Forums - Nintendo - 'Last Zelda as you know it' - real or fake quote?

I was just checking a previous thread of mine which I stated that the quote 'Twilight Princess will be the last Zelda game as you know it in its present form' was a fake.

Now I was told that it wasn't faked by two posters, both mentioning that it was in an Iwata asks interview but it actually wasn't, here's the transcript:

Speaking to Japanese radio over the weekend, Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto chatted fairly freely about what the immediate future holds for the company's biggest two names, Mario and Zelda, revealing how the concept behind Mario 128 actually shaped the development of the Revolution console, and how the forthcoming Legend of Zelda: The Twlight Princess will be the 'last Zelda game as you know it in its present form'. Urk.

Anyway, here's the transcript in full:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why wait so long to release a new installment of Mario? The wait is frustrating players everywhere...

Mario is and always has been a concept title from his birth. We are always looking for new ways of playing with him, manipulating him, to create something new and unique. We're in the midst of preparing something special for his future, something never before seen. You'll understand when you see it that we can't quite release it right away. The new Mario game will surprise many people. Give us the benefit of the doubt. I think we'll present you with a new way to have fun. There's even a new character by his side.'

Mario 128 will be released for Revolution then?

Yes, of course! It's no surprise, but of course we will rename it, obviously. That won't be the only surprise of next year though. We based the Revolution around this new type of game. Mario 128 played a large role in the Revolution's conception, much like Mario 64 in it's time. But we won't just be focusing on Mario. We're working on some very impressive games which push interactivity to the max. Games of a new era.

The new Zelda, it's not really good news that...

Please allow me to interrupt you by saying that you will have to be patient, really. This will be, without a doubt, the last Zelda game as you know it in its present form. I worked on it personally, moreso thanWind Waker! I haven't invested as much into any game as I have this one. Our goal was to make the bestZelda game ever. The most rich/satisfying and melancholy. We've really improved it in just a few months. Everything's coming together much quicker. We may have some last minute ideas...

You're going to move it to Revolution?

No, it is a Gamecube title.

In any case, you want to preserve the air of mystery around Nintendo?

We will be revealing many details soon. It's true, we do like surprises (laughs). While our gamers are sleeping, we're busy thinking up new ideas. But while they're playing - we're playing as well.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Intriguing stuff, I'm sure you'll agree. Just who is the new character by Mario's side? How has Mario 128influenced how the Revolution is conceived? In what ways will this be the last Zelda game as we know it? And do Nintendo really only have ideas when we sleep?

Hopefully, with the Tokyo Game Show approaching, all will be revealed soon.

So I ask.. Is this particular interview fake? Many have said it was and I went with them without looking further into it. It wasn't an Iwata Asks interview though, I know that much. If anybody could clarify, that'd be great!

To be honest, I don't want it to be fake. Zelda needs to become something better, move on from the Ocarina of Time style of gameplay. I know that we all love this style of gameplay, but it's missing something that A Link to the Past and OOT did for their respective times and that was the "WOW factor."

ALttP just incorporated everything that was good from 2D games (I'm talking length, replayability, music, etc.) and perfected it the Zelda way, then OOT brought everything that was good from ALttP and changed it for the 3D world. With the Wii, I'm expecting Nintendo to bring everything the Wii can offer to the Zelda universe.

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

It's Zelda, Jim, but not as we know it.

Damnit Jim, I'm a doctor, not a plumber.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

why change the name for Mario 128? It seems sequentially accurate.
Same goes for the new zelda, we hear this same type of hyping every year; "The best zelda ever".

haha...Zelda needs to go all sandbox on our asses.

Whether or not he said it... i'd call it fake.

The next Zelda may be different but i'd bet on a retro one before long. At least one more.

even if the interview is real the timing could suggest that he wasn't talking about a huge shift in how Zelda is designed but instead alluding to the use of motion control in the "revolution" and that this would be the last Zelda you play without motion controls. Would make sense since at that time Zelda was meant to be only on Gamecube.

It's fake. GAF already confirmed it. :3

Still don't have a link on that though, huh? Not that i'm questioning you, but i'd like to see their logic.

Either way, the quote being fake definitely helps clear up the contradiction when Shiggy said this year that the new game wouldn't be all that different.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Zelda is just fine the way it is.
