Forums - Sony - What does Naughty Dog do after Uncharted 2?

Seeing as this generation will last longer than previous ones, I don't want to have to wait for a PS4 to play Uncharted 3 so I definitely want that game from ND, but not right away. I think they should bring back Jak and Dexter to beautiful HD form and revive the series; that would be a dream come true! I would love to see Uncharted 3 after that though, and I disagree with the person who said that 3 Uncharted games in one generation is too much. Don't forget, that there were 3 Jak games for the PS2, as well as 3 Ratchet games in a span of just 5-6 years. Another Uncharted game certainly wouldn't hurt.

And as for the best platformer on the PS2, it's a tough call between Ratchet and Jak, I really can't decide. Both are in my all time favourite lists!

^np, should've clarified but figured Kantor would know. Jak + Daxter FTW!!!

I do think Jak is awesome, but I prefer Uncharted, and I also prefer R&C

For me, R&C > Uncharted > Jak > Crash (the good ones) >> Spyro >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Resistance.

Theyve already gone on record to say that there will be DLC for U2, as well as inevitable patches. Those are a given.

So after that... What's next for Naughty Dog? Start work on Uncharted 3 or a new Jak and Daxter game on ps3?

IMO Uncharted is an amazing series and is looking like Sony's first ever action/adventure TPS that could have longevity like the Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid franchises. Perhaps to avoid oversaturation, it might be smart to save Uncharted 3 for the Ps4? If you look at most series with longevity they only had 2 main games per gen.

Jak and Daxter... the hardcore want it. But is there really a market for it anymore? I think there will be, since at $299 the Ps3 will be affordable for younger ppl that J&D caters toward. I personally would love to see it. However making a game with animation/cartoony graphics seems like a bit of a waste of the beastly ND Engine. Something more realistic looking would probably get the most out of the engine. I think a lot of people have forgotten about the Jak series since it's been such a long time too. People who were 15 years old when Jak first came out are significantly older now and probably outgrown the Jak games.

Does Naughty Dog start something completely new and if so, what direction do they go? Personally they are my favorite devs dating all the way back to Crash Bandicoot on the original PS, and Ive liked all their series so I'm pretty confident with ND. I know what ever they put out will be quality.

Overall while I'd like another J&D game I think that part of ND has moved on and would love to see them start another series and let someone else pick up the J&D development on Ps3. It would be too much of a waste to have your best graphics team using 1-2 years on a game with cartoony graphics when they could be using their time developing a new blockbuster exclusive

This series alone makes me want a PS3.
Good point. God of War 1 & 2. Soul Calibur 2 & 3. Plenty more i can't name them all.

Crash: Crash Bandicoot, 2, 3, Crash Team Racing, Crash Bash (not Naughty Dog) 4 or 5

Ratchet: R&C, Going Commando, Up Your Arsenal, Deadlocked, Size Matters (port). 4 or 5.

Jak: Jak, Jak 2, Jak 3, Jak X Combat Racing. 4.

Resistance: RFOM and R2 already, R3 in 2010, perhaps another. 3+

Sly Cooper: 3 games

Insomniac and Naughty Dog (and Sucker Punch I guess) put out more games in the same series, it seems. Of course, this is when Insomniac and ND made one series each, not two.

@ hellonearth, firstly Naughty Dog employ 90 people,

Source? I know I didnt give one either but I'm pretty sure I recently heard them saying they expanded quite a bit , especially for the multiplayer/online portion of U2.

I think you can guess where I got it from

Actually, this is their list of employees as of 2008, I count 80:

Your source is outdated. Check the new Cover Story on 1up.com....naughty dog themselves say it's over 100+ employees now.

Yeah I saw that, but that wasn't around when I posted that, as I said that is as of 2008

A new Jak and Daxter game. I've been waiting since the release of Jak 3 for a new actual console Jak game. Jak X was fun, but wasn't a true Jak game.

Naughty Dog I love the Uncharted series, but take a little break from Uncharted and go back to Jak.

I hope they dont make crash bandicoot again

Jak 4 by the end of next year, will be next on the agenda, but then i see Uncharted 3 the following year. I've read that they now have multiple teams working at the same time thus reducing the time between releases.

[Edit] I must also add the fact that whilst it is not being made by Naughty Dog, Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier for PS2/PSP does release just weeks after Uncharted 2. Maybe this (if it is a success) might mean that Naughty Dog hands the franchise over (Keeping in mind the last two J&D related games would be made by other devs) [/edit]

Crash bandicoot collection, like the sonic one on ps2. With trophies rahhh that would be serious.
