Angry gamers begin backlash of Activision after Robert Kotick's statement that he'll like to see the price of games rise. With the sequel churner himself smug at the fact during the recession he'll happily rise game prices, starting with Modern Warfare hitting at an extra £5.00 sterling than usual retail prices.
Passionate rally cry after the jump..

Personally I'll probably choose to be among them. Back during the later part of the PlayStation era and the first half of the PS2 era, Activision was among my favorite publishers due in large part thanks to their Tony Hawk and Spider-Man games. In the last two years in particular however I'm been continually disappointed by a number of their games and their general ways of conducting business. It all began with the massive disappointment that was Spider-Man 3 and continued onward with the ridiculous milking and non-stop releases of multiple Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk games every year that just seem to get worse and worse in part because it's all just more of the same. They especially hit a sour spot with me when they tried their hand at bluffing Sony into issuing a price drop and not long after revealed the ludicrous prices for their own games. And after all this, their CEO has the nerve to joke about his overpriced half-assed games being too cheap for him. I find it completely disgusting.
It also doesn't help the fact that Electronic Arts, a company I formerlly despised for much of the same reasons I currently can't stand Activision, has gone and taken two of Activision's franchises (Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero) and created their own versions (Skate and Rock Band) that do not either have multiple releases every year, provide the least innovation possible, or are priced in ways that force me to choose their games alone. Not only that, EA has actually brought some great and unique games this generation with Burnout Paradise, Mirror's Edge and Dead Space. I'm sick of Activision's posturing and I'm gonna do my part to bring them back to Earth. It may mean missing out on Modern Warfare 2, but with Halo 3: ODST, M.A.G., and Uncharted 2 releasing around the same time I'll have plenty of alternatives to get my shooter fix and all with games that will probably feature a lot more innovation that what's already on the market too. But if Activision comes around and releases a game that actually looks like I haven't played it before I may actually be willing to pick it up... used.
