The last article I read on the subject labeled the first pictures as an elaborate hoax. After that I've seen only a couple of blurry shots from unknown sources. The way I see it, it's all rumour and no substance, if a PS3 Slim exists it is only in the early stages of development and not at all ready for release this year. Yet it appears that everyone else is certain that it exists. Some people even seem certain that it will release on the 1st of september.

Did I miss something? How come this rumor has such staying power? And is there anyone out there that shares my disbelief?

Edit: To be more product: A lot of people doubted the slim, me included, when we first saw the Chinese photos of the slims. Even the video tape in that Central/South American country didn't convince me. It's only until the flood of news of individual retailiers cutting the price of the PS3 did I B_E_L_I_E_VE in the slim. It's obvious that they're trying to clear their inventory of PS3's very quickly, and either the PS3 is simply domed, or they're going to replace that empty shelf with something...

make me rule out the possibility

While those photos were fake and every sane person knows it, I do think that Sony's up to something. There have been too many evidences of that, clearance sales, stopping production of units, increased demand of components, and so on. Whether that will lead to a PS3 slim is something I don't know, maybe it's only a price cut, maybe Sony just fooled us.

Even if they don't show off the slim this year. It's still out there somewhere :p
