You are right then, but then Zelda Wii would have had more than 5 years before release considering that Zelda TP was mostly done before it's release date. This time around they really were slow with the production, and it all seems slower when too few titles worth playing are getting released. By next year it will be all good, but the constant and long SW droughts really make these 5 - 6 year development cycles seem terrible.

I don't think Nintendo is being at all slow, seeing as how they're trying to totally reinvent Zelda.  In fact, this is probably going to be their flagship title for the Wii, much like Ocarina of Time was for the N64 (and Twilight Princess was going to be for GC, until it was pushed back so much, they pushed it to a joint release for Wii).

But I would despute the view that there are too few titles coming out, especially from Nintendo themselves.  Nintendo has been releasing more (and better) games in the first half of this gen than the entire gamecube/game boy advance run combined.  And while GC did have a few amazing games, it was just that, a few.  Wii in just its first year had pretty much done what the GameCube did in 3-4 years.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

Depending on if Kirby finally happens or not it may be extented to a Holy Quatrology...or something like that.

@Kenryoku_Maxis: If you're refering to the quote about 'Twilight Princess being the last Zelda of its kind' you should know that it has since been found that it was a fake interview.

Also about Zelda being a flagship title for Wii, the Wii series already has that honour and I think Mario Kart Wii and New Super Mario Bros. Wii will eclipse Zelda's popularity fairly easily. Perhaps it will become the flagship title for core audience Wii owners but it won't have the effect that you seem to be alluding to.

Btw Tres, I think even though it's taken so long to see Zelda: Wii, we'll most likely see a sequel two years after Zelda: Wii is launched similar to the OoT -> MM situation with the reusing of the engine and controls that will have taken some time to put together for this upcoming title.

A few thoughts:

1. Wikipedia might be wrong, but according to them, EAD 5 was dissolved, and EAD 1 is working on Wii Fit Plus, which would bog down their resources for any potential mystery title. I'm inclined to believe them, since EAD 5 was created on an ad-hoc basis just to make Wii Fit.

2. Even if Intelligent Systems were making more than one Dragon Quest game, we know they have the capability to do more than one simultaneously

3. The mystery regarding HAL Labs' involvement is getting strange. Maybe they're providing fodder for Project Sora?

4. When was it ever explicitly stated that Other M would have 2D sections? I don't remember seeing or hearing it, i thought that was just a rumor that cropped up from basic observation of the trailer

5. I do think the Spring, Summer, Holiday lineup for the trinity in the order described (Mario, Metroid, Zelda) may happen, just because EAD 3 has had so long to work on their next console Zelda project.

1. This could be true and would make sense, 1/4 of EAD 5 was made up by members of the Zelda team for instance.

2. This is also true but then would a Paper Mario title make sense? New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2 AND Super Paper Mario 2 all within a year of each other?

3. Project Sora was said to have a 2 year development time for their new title which would put it at around Q4 2011. Nintendo may be relying on this title as the big holiday title and so extra man power would make sense here.

4. Seeing as you are a fan of Wikipedia, go check Metroid: Other M's page sometime.

5. We'll know more come October but would seem to be the likely order of releases.

If your refeeing too the 3/10 found towards the end of the Other M trailer, i think its sure speculation. All it was is the missile ammo element left behind on the HUD.

It probably is meaningless, but it makes you wonder why they put that specific HUD in. I mean, if you watch the trailer, there isn't a HUD at all until they say 2010, then they draw in that specific HUD, which could have had any numbers.

Also, the issue of 2D gameplay still seems to just be coming from observation of the trailer. The note that wikipedia cited for that specific instance is just based on casual observation of the trailer, which just has one snippet where Samus jumps in a way that implies 2D, but it was still never stated.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
