CANADA STAND UP!!!

OT: Japan is Gaming. Im sorry but for the longest while my gaming collection consisted of mainly Japanese developed games. Only now are US and UK and Canadian devs making their way into my library. You can't touch Japan you wanna bring Wow's 11M userbase? Ill bring in a Wii Fit/Gran Turismo/Super Mario Bros etc. Hell the most successful and popular franchise is FROM Japan. Pokemon. Hell until Sept of Last year wasn't the American console (Xbox 360) Last in BOTH Others and Japan? With PS3 and the Wii in 2nd and 1st place respectively?

I'd be bold enough to say that if American companies just made games for PC I don't think outside of a few franchises It would change my gaming much.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Isn't canada a huge videogame place? Doesn't EA have their headquarters there?

Their HQ is in California, but they have large devs in Canada.

what?

EA HQ is in Burnaby, BC in Canada.

Canada has:

EA,bioware,Ubisof,Radical Entertainment, Relic Entertainment, Digital Extremes,Silicon Knights....

Firstly, Ubisoft is French. Most of their quality games are made in Canada, though, so I'll give you that. Secondly, look at your list. Now look at the list in the OP. Now think of all the developers and companies in Japan and the USA.

Do you really think Canada can make the top three? Maybe 4th. A distant 4th.

that's beacause ubi soft is in montreal, canada. french speaking canadians.

it has over 120 game developing studio and compare to its 30 million population(1/10 of the USA population)I think it's doing amazing.better than UK for sure.

Sure, it's doing great per capita, but we're not comparing that.

As for the UK, again, look at your list. Now look at the list in the OP.

Do you really think Canada is close, or is that just the loyal Canadian in you speaking...eh?

Anyone who claims Japan is not the king, I offer you a quote from a legendary VGChartz member permabanned before her time:

"The Japan is Games".

(Former) Lead Moderator and (Eternal) VGC Detective

I'm gonna go with:

1. USA.
2. Japan.
3. UK.

Though I will say that the UK was pretty much non-existant until recently, and it's made its way up to third now, and the market is still growing at a rapid rate... I'll give it 10/20 years before it's drawing with Japan, perhaps sooner, if Japan keeps falling.

The UK could also lay claim to owning the USA and Canada at some point, but let's not go there :P

Canada.

and Canadian wannabe a.k.a Americans.

Japan, by far, although maybe not as much this generation. I have to say, without Nintendo would Japan actually be the no.1?

First, thanks for recognizing the UK, but I must take issue with a couple of things you said.

The UK was definitely NOT 'non-existent until recently'. Let's consider recent as the last decade. 'Elite' came out in 1984, and to quote Wikipeida "Elite's open ended game model, advanced game engine and revolutionary 3D graphics ensured that it was ported to virtually every contemporary home computer system, and earned it a place as a classic and a genre maker in gaming history". Then there's DMA design: Lemmings came out in 1991 and the original GTA came out in 1997. Bullfrog productions had all their major hits from 1989 till 1999 and most people would say that Rare did their best work from the 1980s up to the year 2000.

Secondly, I don't think the UK is likely to own Japan or USA anytime soon. The UK has done a lot, but the more I think about it, since making this thread, the more I realize it doesn't match up to the USA and especially not Japan. The UK is third place.

Ubisoft has facilities in Canada, but they're a french company with headquarters in Montreuil-sous-Bois, France.

EA was founded and is headquartered in Redwood City, California, US.

Canada cannot claim credit for those two

Capcom, Konami, Sony, Sega, Square, Enix, Namco, Bandai, Atlus, Sega...

Yes, Japan would still be number one even without Nintendo.
