Though I will say that the UK was pretty much non-existant until recently, and it's made its way up to third now, and the market is still growing at a rapid rate... I'll give it 10/20 years before it's drawing with Japan, perhaps sooner, if Japan keeps falling. The UK could also lay claim to owning the USA and Canada at some point, but let's not go there :P |
First, thanks for recognizing the UK, but I must take issue with a couple of things you said.
The UK was definitely NOT 'non-existent until recently'. Let's consider recent as the last decade. 'Elite' came out in 1984, and to quote Wikipeida "Elite's open ended game model, advanced game engine and revolutionary 3D graphics ensured that it was ported to virtually every contemporary home computer system, and earned it a place as a classic and a genre maker in gaming history". Then there's DMA design: Lemmings came out in 1991 and the original GTA came out in 1997. Bullfrog productions had all their major hits from 1989 till 1999 and most people would say that Rare did their best work from the 1980s up to the year 2000.
Secondly, I don't think the UK is likely to own Japan or USA anytime soon. The UK has done a lot, but the more I think about it, since making this thread, the more I realize it doesn't match up to the USA and especially not Japan. The UK is third place.
