Forums - Gaming - Which nations have contributed the most to gaming?

So many companies do some many things these days in so many locations who knows what studio will contribute to a game so you can't just lump all Sony or Nintendo things into Japan. I was going to try and argue China just because of how much of it is physically made there even if it's not programed there. Or argue just California :P since there are plenty of studios here and silicon valley.

Why is creating video games not the greatest contribution to video games?

I LOVE ICELAND!

My vote goes to Japan.

considering Nintendo, Sony, and Sega are all Japanese companies I don't think you can really argue otherwise.
For america you have microsoft and atari. Not even close.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

I think it's safe to say that side from Retro and NST pretty much all of Nintendo's games can be attributed to Japanese development. The hardware probably involves a bit more international co-operation from what I've heard. As for Sony, I'm not really an expert. I understand they have several studios abroad.

Ubisoft Montreal... oh how art fallen =(

Loved SC 1, 3, and Last Gen 4. (2 was ok. Double Agent for current gen was AWFUL. Fucking Shanghai).

Did they make PoP SOT?

======================

Assassins's Creed, and Far Cry 2, both were huge dissapointmens =/ Far Cry 2 actually gave me a headache >.< Fucking give me a faster way to transport, or at least don't make me refight the same guard posts, and make my already long journey towards the mission at hand longer.

I think Canada 4th has been pretty much agreed upon by now. 5th to Germany and 6th to France is probably just a bit more contentious. Does anyone else have any thoughts on that?

Well, what do you consider "japanese?"

Sony puts out a lot of good 1st party games, I think everyone agrees with that... but 3/4 of them are by developers they aquired (european & america developers).  They are not japanese.  They are just owned by a japanese company.

What do you consider them?

American Developers owned by Sony
Naughty Dog
Santa Monica Studio
San Diego Studio
Sony Bend
Sony Online Entertainment LLC.
Incognito Entertainment
Zipper Interactive
European Develoeprs owned by Sony
London Studio
Studio Cambridge
Studio Liverpool
Guerrilla Games
Evolution Studios
Bigbig Studios

American Developers owned by Sony

(5 of which are UK, so this helps the UK arguement of being major contributors)

that leaves Sony with 4 actual "japanese" developers.   Even 2nd party developers that Sony uses... all the great games are from US/UK (Resistance series, LittleBigPlanet, Rachet & Crank series, Sly cooper series, inFamous, Heavy Rain, Heavenly Sword).

I don't know about you, but I certainly don't consider Volvo to be an American car, just because Ford owns them.

Neoraf, nice post.  I think a lot of people are sleeping on Canadian developers. They've also contributed a lot to gaming.
