Forums - Sales - COD 4 Pc sold less than 2 million units? Piracy is to blame?

This sounds like shipped to retail to me.... and it's funny you use VGC numbers against Activision numbers. Only way you can see how much PC version sold is if you use Acti numbers against Acti numbers.

PC is casual and has no market for hardcore FPS. That's not worth the effort.
Unfortunatelly we won't see many more 3rd party games since this games are flopping.
Only PC first party titles sell...

oh wait....

But but I thought COD 4 had sold 8 million on PC?

it is true, didn't you know? it sold 6mln in africa, china and russia where activision didn't even know they have send any copies or even made that many of them.

Shio, what does it take to make you silent?

You actually claim Activision does not know the numbers, but you do!?
If CoD4 sold 10 million on PC, like you claimed before, Activision would have let us know.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

definitely oh wait since indie developers have created amazing PC exclusive titles like Zeno Clash that have been incredibly successful and are getting sequels or growing a fanbase around the developer.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: 2.000.000 copies sold

GSC Game World announces its S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl has sold 1 million copies worldwide and 1 million licensed copies in ex-USSR countries.

"We are very pleased that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. became so popular among players from all over the world, - said GSC Game World CEO Sergiy Grygorovych. – S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is more than just a game now. Financial success will allow us to develop S.T.A.L.K.E.R. in different directions as a brand."

As for CoD4 PC sales, it's very hard to ignore official activision press reports

^ gotcha. I wasn't trying to doubt it was true. I just didn't realize it sold that much.

I dunno. It doesn't make sense that it is that low of sales for CoD:MW. But you guys also have to keep in mind that Imagine Babiez and Carnival Games have also sold more than 2 million copies worldwide. :p crazy shit happens all the time. It doesn't mean that it's a failure. I've actually had customers tell me that CoDMW is the only shooter they've actually prefered on console. So I could kind of understand.

exactly.  Plus, CoD:MW had 2 other platforms it was selling on while stalker was a PC exclusive.  pretty much everybody that has a 360 or ps3 has a PC as well.  I think 2 million is a good number for copies sold on PC.  Even though Shio loves to quote that 2007 gamespot article right after the game came out as his source of why it sold 10 million.  I also love how he likes to ignore all the recent sales figures that activision has anounced since then.  Nothing is more accurate than a 2007 article that was written a month after the game came out :)

I would find it VERY hard to believe Cod4 pc and stalker selled in the same ballapark. that just doesn't seem right. I won't give a number but... all my intuition points to 2m being WAY too low.Cod4 had mad legs AND a great start.... 2m is way too low.
