Forums - Sony - Updated EU release dates: GT5 and MAG out this year!

I hope for Sony that this leak is intentional, to try and force MS to uncover some of its cards, and that the dates aren't exact.
But OTOH, good dates for games releases for Xmas season aren't so many, overlapping is unavoidable if releases are in large numbers.

The strange thing is Sony have announced their Gamescom lineup but GT5 wasnt in it.

poor MAG...
I already have my share of FPS for this gen, and not buying any more FPS. (only bioshock2, because for me that is more than a fps)

But as a gamer I feel sad for MAG.

MW2 and uncharted 2 will eat all it's sales.

I didn't notice that... maybe they are saving it for TGS, but I am sure they can still surprise us, after all, their conference is before the event begins

Nevermind. I thought this was that stupid excel spreadsheet from before. This is the neon colored release list from Micromania, the biggest video game retailer in France. Based on a couple of guys on Gaf that know people from the company, the dates should be based on placeholder dates received from Sony.

I'm a believer again. The Uncharted date also fits with Naughty Dog's statements that the game would be hitting before the 23rd in Europe, which was the initial date pegged for the region.

And that's what I get for not bothering to click the link in the first place. >_>

Hey, Resistance 2 launched around the time World at War released, and it hardly "bombed"- it sold 450k first week and went on to hit a million within 7 weeks. It wouldn't have sold nearly that well if it launched in Q1.

Resistance 2 is sitting at 1.57m sold and didn't that release very close to COD:WAW? I know that had a large following from Resistance 1 but the PS3 has a larger instal base now (hopefully will be helped even more by a soon to be price cut) and MAG still has the fact that it's a PS3 exclusive and holiday sales to help it. I know MW2 is obviously going to take sales away from it but I'm still fairly confident MAG will do ok, assuming the game is actually any good of course. Given reasonable reviews I think MAG could still do around 1mil by the years end, which would be good for that title. I will be picking it up before MW2 anyway .

I hope MAG succeeds but the game is quite unpopular even among Sony fans. Most people are very sceptical.

The hype is just a fraction of games such as Heavenly Sword, Resistance or Infamous.

Different genres, but think Motorstorm 2 (or perhaps Warhawk, buy we lack complete sales for that game) when you try to imagine sales potential and anticipation for MAG. Motorstorm 2 didn't even reach 500,000 in it's first 10 weeks out. Same with SOCOM which is perhaps the best comparison to MAG's potential, released in Oct 2008 and also selling 500,000 before end of year.

This is best case scenario, 500k before end of year. Personally I believe in a huge flop and 250,000 copies. Actually I doubt a 2009 release date at all.

250k?  You can't be serious.  Even Wii titles like Zack & Wiki do better than that.  Hell, Haze tripled that.

I think MAG will perform similarly to Warhawk, though a bit better due to the much larger install base (plus they'll be able to market 256-man battles pretty well).  It'll sell pretty well for a few weeks, then it will drop off the map.  It'll develop a very hardcore playerbase that will be hard for new players to break into, so it's legs will be almost non-existent.muhc like Warhawk.

I expect 500k or so over the holidays, then nothing much after that.

So Modern Warfare 2 is out Nov 10th
MAG is out Nov 12th.

Oh dear.

The 10th is a Tuesday and the 12 Thursday.

Games release on Fridays, I cannot remember the last time one didn't.  I call foul on these dates, in UK anyway.

Every single trailer released for MW2 in the past few months has ended with the 11/10 release date.  That date is definitely correct.

And games released on Tuesdays for years.  Only recently has Friday become a common date for releases.

I hope they are surprising us because I want GT5 this year. And after all Europe is the home of Gran Turismo so why not reveal it at Gamescom?

It's also developed in Japan. Polyphony's headquarters are in Tokyo, they can take a large bus to the event, rather than flying halfway across the world.

I still think they'll show more at GamesCom, and perhaps confirm it for 2009, but I don't think they'll give a specific release date until TGS...or later.
