Why do you think they base their reviews on hype?  They gave Super Smash Brothers Brawl a perfect 10 and I loved it.  They also gave Metal Gear Solid 4 a perfect 10 and it was also well received.  Both of these titles often land in the 20s of best 100 games ever made.  Why do you think Famitsu is hype driven?

They have admited that they score based off of hype...

I agree, extremely unprofessional.

All reveiws come down to an subjective verdict, but the verdict should be based on facts.  Most of the games that received perfect scores are exceptional games that do not arrive very often.  I might not think they deserve a perfect score, but I can see it given.  The only game on the list I played and think is very overrated is "Wind Waker".

I HATE SAILING!  WHEN WILL THE SAILING STOP!

Other than that one exception, I have no objection to any of those games receiving a perfect score.

Yeah, according to Famitsu Wii>DS>N64=DC=GC=PS1=PS2=PS3 =) Clearly, score based on hype, but I can't blame Famitsu - that's usual practice of a bunch of gaming magazines (and that's why I have some respect for Edge). //Though they scored 428 40/40 with no hype at all.

Wha? O_o But (the amount of) hype is a fact, therefore are you indicating that it is OK to base a review score on hype? A review should be based on the reviewer's personal experience of playing the game, nothing else.

This is insane. Every other console only got 1 perfect Famitsu review.

Now the DS has two and the Wii has three!

It used to be that, the year a game with a perfect Famitsu score launched, that was around the peak year for the console, and then the later year it would start disappearing, with the exception of Sony consoles. It was this way with the N64, the Dreamcast, the Gamecube and the DSPhat. Last year the Wii got two perfect scores so I was expecting this year to be a fading year, and so far it was interestingly or not. But now that it has another perfect score we'll see how that goes.

Either way it's pretty remarkable. Agree with their reviews or not, Famitsu's prestige is quite high.
