Was watching CNN American Morning (if anyone saw John Roberts unneccesarily debate with the guy charged with 600k, I fucking hate people like that, both online and offline. The guy shouldn't have tried to justify his stealing and make it a whole movement, but simply argue that 600k was excessive [he could ask if it'll be excessive if one was charged 600k for physical shop lifting]. Anyway, I hate people who use people, who have done something wrong or made a flaw, as according to human nature, and use them as a pedestal to believe they're higher and god like, even though they're prone to the same flaws and mistakes) and saw this commercial =/

I have nothing against Scientology the RELIGION/BELIEF, but I hate the CHURCH of Scientology. Scientology is ridiculous, but so are all the other religions, to say Scientology is worse/more ridiculous is... ridiculous.

However the specific organisation, the specific church, the specific people who run it, scam people out of their money. If they are an religious organization, interested in only spreading their word and good faith, then they shouldn't be charging 2k+ per book/lesson. They shouldn't be harassing/stalking former members/critics. They COPYRIGHT their religion's icon, and don't allow OTHERS to make their own churches and worship on their own. At this point they're blocking both Freedom of Religion, and completely go against their primary objective of spreading their religion, and getting rid of COMPETITORS (who won't charge ridiculous ammounts to teach their religion's teachings).

Fucking hate seeing infomercials for "Miracle Springwater" by Christian ministers, and I know that there are SPECIFIC people and organizations in other religions. You can't say Christianity is worse than Scientology, Judaism is worse than Islam. They're all ridiculous in my opinion. But I can definetly look at a the tangible actions of someone/thing and criticize it.

The BEST way to kill this organization is SIMPLE. COMPETITION. Beat them at their own game. The Church of Scientology takes a philosophy of business and making money, not spreading their religion.

By ruling that Scientology can't copyright their religious icon and block the creation of other Scientologist organizations/churches, they'll be unable to charge ridiculous ammounts for their books, lessons, etc, when they can be offered for free/cheaper at other places. And at that point it'll collapse. The leaders will be disinterested in running an unprofitable business. The Church may even collapse on itself. Scientology can stay, but the specific Church cannot.

Please, you can't place the a few crazy churches that sell holy water or anything like that with churches that sell books and cds. That's completely different.

The church I go to sell books and cds but they usually lose money/break even on the sale.

That video on Judges is frikkin hilarious. The god of the old testament is so freaking insane. The old testament was a large contributing factor to my becoming an atheist, because god as depicted in that is absolutely no where close to being the PR image of god of modern christianity. And yet those books are still somehow defended as showing a just and loving father just under a different set of circumstances that make all of his horrific acts perfectly ok.

As for scientology, as the old saying goes. A fool and his money are soon parted. It's not just religions selling miracle water, how many ads for miracle diet pills do you hear on the radio, or ads for penis enlargement pills do you get in your e-mail? Alot Businesses thrive by taking advantage of weak psyche's, and/or emotional issues. By no means does it make it right, far from it. But competition would probably just splinter scientology into various groups of profiteers rather than one large group of profiteers, much like any other religion. I don't really see that as being any better or worse from an ethical standpoint.
