Forums - Gaming - Anyone else dislike sci-fi games?

Most games have Sci Fi elements. Heck, you could even say MGS4 is kind of Sci Fi. But when I say I dislike Sci Fi games, I'm talking about this....

alien enemies, takes place in the future, on another planet, unrealistic guns...

It's just way to cliche for me. All of it. Just too typical. You get a weird gun that shoots lasers/orbs, the enemies are ugly looking aliens, the stories always the same.

Am I in the minority at vgchartz to have a STRONG preference for games that have HUMANS, in realistic settings, with realistic guns?

I agree SF setting is getting to boring - however that's due to lack of developer creative effort 'd argue - however I far prefer SF setting to real world.

I just find it kind of odd the rabid desire for many young males to pretend they're winning World War II or sorting out the obligatory 'fictional Middle Eastern' setting.

I don't mind such settings, but they're not my preference, and I'd say these days the real world combat scenarios are now even more cliche than the SF ones.

Personally what I'd like is more well thought out, interesting settings - be they fantasy a'la Thief or a well realized SF setting a'la Half Life 2.

Just like books and movies though, you're going to get repeat and rinse of already used popular settings vs a small amount of creative effort trying to bring you something new.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I don't like science ficition in general. I remember that all my friends used to watch and collect Star Wars figures in elementary school, except me.

That's mostly American sci-fi (and i hate it too),  Japanese sci-fi is not like that

Best sci-fi game i played was "Parasite Eve" on the PS1, try it out.

Yeah, sci-fi games are horrible. How anyone can play this crap genre is beyond me.

Not my genre either. Killzone 2 is a good game though since it relies on more realistic types of weapons.

I detect sarcasm in this post!

OT: Sci-Fi games are great if implemented well (EG: Halo series, Fallout 3,  games like them)  But that goes for any game really.  But still I much prefer sci-fi over realistic.

I wouldnt consider Kz2 Sci-fi. It has human characters and realistic weapons. The settings (while fictional) are realistic too.

You're not jumping 40 ft in the air and shooting alien bugs with a nerf gun like in some other games.

You're such a fanboy. This thread is dedicated to Halo and we all know that.

Huge aerial drones, Lightning guns, interstellar war, huge spaceships, mutated enemies = no sci-fi

It all depends on the game I suppose. I really enjoyed games like Homeworld 1 and 2 as well as Freespace 1 and 2. Mass Effect was fun as well.
