He said it could
PS2 can do 480 p in some games (full list http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_2_games_with_HD_support ), but no true HD ( 720p, 1080 p).
You got to plugg the component cable, (which you can also use in PS3), activate the y pb pr option in ps2 menu and choose progressive scan in game menu.
I must tell you, a game like God of war 2 in 480p, is almost a PS3 game!!

GT4 ran in 1080i which is technically HD, just not full HD. When I bought my first HDTV it was only 1080i/720p but it was advertized as an HDTV like alot of TVs today are as well.

1080 i is hd.
hd is 720p, 1080 i, 1080 p
full hd - 1080 p
progressive scan - 480 p, 576 p
so gt4 is hd. Didn´t know GT4 was 1080 i.

I see So the PS2 could 1080i which is HD but why didn't it do 720p, and 1080p
from my very technically minded butt: the ps2 could do HD but in order to process the extra pixels you would need to make up for the power in other places like less polygons which as an overall effect would make things look worse not better.
for that matter xbox and game cube could do HD as well.
