In terms of getting to the charts you want quickly - would dropdown menus work better than the current setup?
I think it might get kind of confusing with the current main/sub level navigation menus.
Mainly came here for the sales charts then I started getting active in the forums and that kept me coming until things got really busy. Now I come to check out news articles and go through the game db. I don't think that splitting the site would help things I know I would just prefer everything to stay on the same site and manage myself from there.

I use sweeping words, 'worthless' is obviously an exaggeration. That was unfortunate.
But I am sure you understand what I mean though, that news have different magnitudes.

What if we put the filters that are currently on the Popular Stories box also onto the Latest Headlines box? Then you can just look at Sales, Features, etc at your leisure.
Also the Popular Stories box is basically a way to be able to only look at the "important" news, since it'd be what floats to the top.

I definitely agree with you on that news has different maginitudes, but that's the same with all news. Obviously not even news articles is going to be uber important, but you still need give the site to post news for everybody.
I also agree with you that standards for news articles need to be defined more so in stone.

It really is striking to go from a well-written article by TheSource (what's-his-name...) to a 2 sentence article with a couple pictures. It's not just a drop in quality, it's quality jumping off a cliff... into the ocean... drowning... and being eaten by sea monsters while the reader goes "O.o"

Well, there is a huge difference in the quality of one of the Source original articles and the posting of some general news.
I had only read the first 50 posts when I replied. Now that I've read the whole thread it seems I just repeated what many already have addressed - the need of VGC to focus on the sales numbers, and the strength of owning such a unique characteristic.
I'm happy that people feel this way. Even some new posters have participated by pointing out this issue with very thoughtful posts.

That's true. His articles are very enjoyable for that reason.

Well, what do you expect? The Source is an analyst, he does analysis articles. We post general news about things we either receive from publishers or see in the internet. It's not the same. That's why our articles are in "General News" and Source's usually go into Sales. And besides, every news site does that. While I agree maybe a better sorting of news could improve the site, the articles are getting views, which means somebody is interested in them. And in the end, that's what matters, and that's why we keep doing them
