Forums - Website Topics - New Poll - why do you visit VGChartz?

It is not fair to make me vote for one reason. I come to this site maybe four or five times a aday on my off days and normally, every reason listed is a reason for me to come to this site.

Thee only thing I do not come to this site for is prediction league. Other than that, I like to come to this site for any of the reasons listed.

Sales stuff should be enhanced... Sort by any columns, filter on any columns, text filter on some columns like game starts with "Halo"... Allow multiple pages when filters applied (Want to see all the sales of only PS3 games this week).

Prediction league should become a high priority to move front and center. It is used to be the crack I visited this site for... It has somehow died in my eyes.

Games database should be more accessible and allow ties to your profile... More sorting of search results... Be able to specify which consoles (not just a single console) to search with... Filter by finding games you don't own (or do)... Profiles should allow you to specify what consoles you own and this should be able to be applied to games database searches (Search games for only the consoles I own).

The original VGChartz 1.0 feature that put your recent forum posts on the front page should return.

I come here to read the latest news
Read the reviews
I like to see the latest sales estimates and charts
I love the forums, I like sports and competition so I like people battling for there favorite console on the forums

I think we need lots of sales analyzing articles...
...with unique watermarked charts and graphics, that are biased for a given console, and show that it totally pwnz the competition.
The fanboys will use them all over the net in flamewars, and this means viral marketing for us.

Joking.
Except the first line.

I come here cuz this site has everything. Latest news (and if VGC doesnt post it some one in the community will faster than any other sites), reviews, stats, fun members and forums.

I visit this site for just about everything. News, reviews, etc. I really like the forums because of the huge number of members from all over the world with varying view points. Most forums are only reflective of the North American perspective but on the VGChartz forums all major regions are represented for the most part.

I come to this site to discuss sales for games and to see people's predictions for the sales of upcoming games. No offence to ioi but I don't trust the numbers posted on this website at all, pretty much see them as numbers coming out of ioi's magic number farm and nothing more.

NPD and Media Create are the only numbers I trust and my trust of the numbers posted on this site being legit are very low probably due to being me being a Gaf member for so many years and ioi being a complete joke on that site. Pretty much pulling numbers out the backside is whatever everyone including me thinks there. ( Have actually seen so many people including me banned for just mentioning VGChartz.) When the numbers release from NPD and are then compared to VGChartz it is rather embarrassing about how bad the sales 'tracking' on this site really is.

That said just look at how many times I have posted on this website........I obviously love discussing sales and plain old gaming. It's a great site for discussing sales though which is why I always come back for more. :)

Chose the forum option in the poll. :)

That was constructive!

You see this is where part of the problem lies, we're never going to be able to convert the brainwashed NeoGAF members and unfortunately they seem to get about wherever they can and spread this kind of rubbish which just removes any chance for people to make up their own mind.

Anyone who thinks estimated sales never need readjustment is a total joke and has no idea of real life.

Look at Gartner, Forrester, IDC and all the other highly regarded research agencies. look at all the analysts at Sal. Oppenheim, Goldman Sachs and what not. Look at rating agencies. They all make estimates and predictions based on assumptions, historic data and tidbits they get from industry insiders.

Thinking that you can be 100% right is an utter joke and just shows what level of intelligence the Gaf guys seem to be at.

On the other hand, getting more info on the prediction approach, basic underlying assumptions and info on adjustments and why they were made would be great.

Ioi,

I can’t see anything but harm coming from fragmenting the site. It’s the numbers and charts that differentiate this from every other gaming site – take them away and you’ll be in a murky red ocean.

That said, I have to say that I rarely look at the numbers and charts any more – I’ll be one of the 40%. I think that is because they are not in my face every time I come here – they fall off the right hand side of my screen. Previously I’d have seen something interesting in the numbers, clicked though, followed up and so on. Now I don’t notice until I scroll right, and there’s no real incentive to scroll right.

Of course, partly it will be because the numbers are less interesting than they were 2 years ago and everyone knows who won and lost.

I find it difficult to follow the forums on the front page – everything zooms past too fast, and it is a right royal pain having to scroll right to read posts.

Probably your best bet is to keep the front page for news’n’numbers with a click-through for the forums. That’ll keep the forums cozy as well.

This is not so much related to the poll, but just a possibility of a way to increase traffic.

I think the contests the site has been having lately is great, like for Virtua Tennis or Madworld. But I think that instead of posting on a forum, there should be a way to win things with our vg$. Ideally I would see this working by getting two copies of a game or whatever and having two ways to win. First there would be a time limited blind auction, with who ever bids the most winning the item. This would obviously heavily favor people who contribute a lot and have a lot of vg$. So I think there should also be a way of having a chance to by a entering into a drawing, for example 5vg$ gets you one entrance. This way even people only contribute a little would have a chance to win.

I think this would be a way to get new visitors because people love free stuff, as well as increase the number of people who participate on the website. It would encourage more people to add reviews, post more often etc. I also think the prediction league would get a big boost, because it would be the best way to quickly increase your vg$ total. The increased participation would then enhance the content of the site, and encourage even more people to visit the site.

I don't know how difficult it is to get free things, but I would have to think for example, that a small publisher like Xseed would not have a problem giving a couple of copies of Little King's Story in return for the free advertising/publicity, although it may be very difficult to every get free copies of a game like Modern Warfare 2.

Anyways just my cents, and would be interested in hearing peoples thoughts, or if that idea is not realistic.
