We don't know about how much they were expecting. But I guess they were thinking that Wii Music'll be like Wii Fit or Mario Kart a evergreen product that can sells for a long time.

I consider it a flop if the expectations are not reached. |
Okay. So.... this is the precedent you're going to use. Expectations determines what is a flop and what isn't - which would make Wii Music one of the more profitable flops of all time.

Well...what makes you think it was that profitable. The publicity for the game was huge.

You're asking me if I think Wii Music was profitable. Wii Music, which sold 2.58 million copies.
I mean, yeah, I'll just take a blind shot in the dark here and guess that Wii Music's production values translate into it being profitable at 2.58 million copies sold, advertising or no.
Khuutra's certainly right that Wii Music was not a "flop," as the term has hitherto been defined. It was, however, a "failure," as Iwata himself has (repeatedly) admitted.
Another way to think about it: all flops are failures, but not all failures are flops.
I still liked Wii Music, though.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. Advertising really was huge. Wii Music is the only game commercial I ever saw this gen where I live.
And it was not only a sales flop but also a critically acclaimed flop.

You are in Canada. Either you never watch any TV or.... no I'm jsut going to say you never watch any TV.
Critics haven't gotten the whole Wii movement from the beginning, and again, it is not a flop if it is profitable. We have no reason to think it wasn't profitable and every reason to think it was.

The term you are looking for is "under performed".
flops don't make money, first of all.

Can you think of any other Wii _____ titles that fit this bill?

But it did get you to click! I like to call it the IGN-style of forum-thread creation.
