Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft devalues the Xboxes use of Natal wayy before it launches

Camera based input like Natal will be the future for some interaction. Though I'm not sure when that world penetration will happen. Let alone I don't know if MS will be the ones to do it. Isn't that Johnny guy who worked with the Wiiremote working the Natal.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

I doubt this will be a success for the 360, much less for PC...

Actually it has tons more potential on PC then on X360.

For X360 it gives what some casual friendly games, for pc it allows to revolutionize the way windows user interface operates.

Since when was Natal planned for Apple. Better yet, who cares about gaming on an Apple computer?

Well, I can see that no matter how much logic we throw at you, you're still going to cling to your opinion as though it's full-proof. You even ignored his point and asked why Apple was brought in. Simply take a calm deep breath and read it again.

Back to my point, do I really need to spell it out for you? Xbox won't magically disappear just because the PC will be able to use Natal... Games are still a critical part of the Xbox 360 and the PC isn't nearly that focused. Natal will simply be used as a control input for all we know; something that, as opposed to the mouse and gamepad, both of them can share.

I understand the logic just fine. I am just stating that if I know Microsoft well enough, they will overshadow the 360 with the PC version. Who said the Xbox is going somewhere? It seems to me that everytime Microsoft looks like they will focus on the 360 for once, seperate from the PC realm, they bring the two back in the mix again. Now that they are adding a device originally meant to combat the Wii, they will  devalue one future product to intergrate one product into another.

Another selling point for Natal.
Buy it for your 360 and use it on your PC as well.

Imagine being on MSN chat with some 12yo and you can have your face hidden with some sort of graphic and your voice changed to sound like you're 12 as wel.... er I mean using MSN video chat and messing about with graphical overlays.

I know a lot of people, well I knew a lot of people in UNI that would connect their PC up to their TV to watch anime etc well now they can do that and not have to get up to change episode or pause the clip.

If a lot of people have this on the 360 and get used to it they might be more inclined to use it at work if they can. It can help people familiarise themselves with this new tech and that could help it move it into the home or office PC world.

Yep, if Natal has a USB interface, then theoretically, any device with USB inputs could use gesture control or voice control provided by Natal.

Natal on ps3 confirmed??

Now that, would make me giggle.

That's not so simple unfortunatly.

I think PS3 only operates HID interface USB devices which is why some pc gamepads released years before ps3 was produced work on it. However it also means not all usb peripheries will work - otherwise we would be able to use wired X360 gamepads with ps3 freely.

I don't see how this 'devalues' it. Natal is clearly a very interesting input medium, and as such as relevant to PC as 360.

Its amazing how even you don't get it. Its funny how I can see everyone elses point besides my own, but still only a select few who actually think here can understand what I am saying.

Well, no reason to limit it's capabilities to strictly just the 360. As a whole MS looks at profits, not just exclusivity for the 360.

I firmly believe that the future of computing can be seen in movies like Minority Report, and Natal is an important step towards that.

Microsoft would be stupid to limit this to the 360 just to sell a few extra consoles. It would hold back real progress in the industry.

Edit: Though I suppose the technology in Minority Report is more of a non-physical touchscreen of sorts.  In Iron Man you see a similar interface, only 3D.

Yep...I guess so right? Not even a year ago ago Microsofts  first party exclusives were available to everyone. At the end of last year, they finally realized what exclusive meant and that boosted the sales of the 360. Price cuts used to be the answer...but they finally realized  the next one. I believe Natal can work in the business area and windows os PC's, but this is going to hurt  the gaming region hard in the mainstream. No one will have to buy an Xbox 360 to get their hands on Natal.

Umm thats as stupid as saying if the wiimote was compatible with the PC(which it can be) ppl wudnt buy the wii.

Good to know MS is adding something to the user interface/gaming experience rather than ripping us off with some gimmicky crap, over to you nintendo motion plus.

Natal was a gimmick. Whether you knew it or not, the Wii's "gimmick" is working.

Who cares? PS3 only owners can get it on PC now. They've always ducked buying a 360 because Microsoft was dumb enough to keep their products exclusive. It hurt 360 sales, but eh, who cares?

I think he means the technology more so then NATAL itself. I reckon this sort of tech will be marketed to businesses and such for the PC, to allow them to do video conferencing, presentations etc. I doubt the PC NATAL will be about gettnig it in households and games.

I'd be surprised if Microsoft ever tried to make our PC play NATAL games as it goes against the idea of an Office PC. NATAL's gaming applications clearly need to be in a households living room just for spatial reasons.

Really don't think this is just another Xbox 360 losing its exclusives to PC, if anything I can only see this expanding its appeal as the technology becomes far more mainstream.

Expanse is a loss of exclusivity. I thank you for what you are trying to do though.

What am I trying to do exactly?

I don't believe that Microsoft are going to try and make NATAL a gaming platform on the PC, as to me that just doesn't seem logical. Most PC / laptop set ups are in small space environments - due to the nature of needing to reach a mouse / keyboard and typing. Judging from E3 it takes a sizeable space for one person to use NATAL, let alone multiplayer.

The NATAL technology clearly has appeal far beyond gaming applications, my view is that their PC approach will be aimed at the business sector to use the technology for the aforementioned video conferencing, presentations and such like. If anything I think NATAL is going to be used to try and get more households to use the Xbox 360 as a PC - making it more accessible for family to check emails, browse the internet and so forth.

Don't think its possible, eh? Wasn't Microsoft the same company that gave you both PC and 360 exclusives and thus devaluing the product to Wii and PS3 owners?

It's pretty clear that Microsoft wants to break down the barrier between computer and console so that in the end, there will be no console.
