I suspect that the Ghostbusters will convert to Natal soon. Twesterm was telling me about how good it captures stuff.

Twesterm has gotten his hands on one?  Thats awesome.  Tell us what he said....or else.

He cannot tell me! So therefore I cannot tell you!

It could conceivably make the PC a lot more viable as a living room media center.

It's just not practical for the average user to use a keyboard and mouse to flip through folders, etc. if they're using the PC in the living room from the couch.

Yeah, I know there are people on here who already have their PCs hooked up to their HDTVs, present company included, but they are a small minority among Windows PC users.

If the integration is tight with Windows 7 and it actually works well enough that it's a more convenient user interface for general purpose tasks, I know I'll be using it more with the PC than the Xbox (which I only use for games and frankly, only as a third tier gaming platform).

They have to do it for the PC because the Sony's mission is for the PS to be computer and gaming machine in one. That means PS motion control is intended have PC-type applications and gaming applications. Ergo Microsoft must put NATAL into a wider context than just gaming in order to fully negate the PSEYE+wand.

On a more serious note: It is naive to think that Microsoft would limit technology with such great potential application to the gaming sphere. Microsoft's real profits come from selling stuff to businesses and governemt, not gaming/entertainment sales. Microsoft needs to release unique and advanced tech in the business arena to maintain its massive market share over and increasing movement of the business and govt markets to open source solutions. Though we are small potatoes it is looking increasingly likely that our whole government will ditch Microsoft and go open source. In terms of this country Microsoft makes way more money out of government than it does from Xbox users. If they can hook govt and business in with NATAL then they will slow, stop or possibly even reverse the exodus, cause open source doesn't have the kind of R&D capability to provide a similar non-proprietary product.

Trust me. Microsoft is far more ambitious than Sony when it come to putting over their PC dominance. If their dominance overshadows the Xbox 360, they have already made a mistake Sony has yet to make.

Good and Natal is only a Microsoft Exclusive. Natal will be big.

Anyone with a PC can have access to it as well. The problem with Microsoft is that their ambition goes far beyond the gaming industry.

Wait, how is that bad? For all we know, it can be the new mouse...

Think about it. If you can use it on PC....why use it on the Xbox? Did I just open up an alternate dimension of thought? This isn't the first time Microsoft fucked up trying to make profit off of multiple sources. Microsoft destroyed the value for the original Xbox by having the games on PC and the Xbox at the same time.

When you finally get the fact that the world does not revolve around the gaming industry, you will be in a much better place in life.

Natal has just as bright a future in the business sector as it does in the living room. (as long as it works that is)

The device will use a USB interface almost assuredly, this means that the same box can be sold for use on PCs and 360s. This will allow them to use one set of numbers for sales and it will be much more impressive for tempted developers.

Then again it could use the same 2.4Ghz protocol that the 360 controller uses. In this case, it could still be used with PCs, you would just have to purchase the adapter.

This is the best idea for them to spurn adoption and development support.

I understand this completely. You need to understand that they built Natals first public image around the gaming industry.
