@Squilliam. Yes, granted there are some good points. This holiday season will be an important test for Nintendo. The focus of my criticism was on the way the journalist implied that Nintendo has no strong titles in its immediate line-up, and I think that point still stands. My thread title is probably a little bit guilty of a similar shameless attention-seeking as the author's headline...
@madkiller I don't think you'll make yourself many friends by calling forum posters either chilldish or uneducated. Most of the people I've met on this site fall into neither category.

Whilst the Wii sales may have dropped, it's still selling more than either of the other two consoles...and isn't too far off selling more than the other two added together (which for the last 2 and a half years has been the norm with the exception of a month here or there) in all territories. And it's been the same price since launch, which (and don't quote me on this!) must be some sort of record? I really don't think they've got too much to worry about, and if I had the cash I'd buy a shitload of shares now they've dropped in price.

Although i agree with you wholeheartedly on this point I really don't think this phenomena is unique to Nintendo fans. I do think calling this "Wii-bashing" is a bit sensationalistic but any good points the author may have had lost are lessened by the manner in which he cherry picks facts about releases for the remainder of the year. To dismiss WSR and to not even mention NSMB Wii or Wii Fit + is not just an oversight, it's selecting facts to support a conclusion, and a headline.

I don't remember any threads titled 'More Xbox 360 bashing from incompetent journalists'. Which really does set the tone for the whole discussion.
Whether the journalist overlooked a couple of titles or not, the main crux of the article was that the Wiis hardware sales are down now. So whether or not he mentioned all the big things coming, it still doesn't change the major points which are these:
Now the question to whether an extension to Wii Sports, and extension to Wii Fit and an extension to the Mario franchise this year can restore the sales pace that the Wii has had is up in the air. Im personally wondering if the fact that the Wiis in stock and the fact that recession hit have both combined to cut the impetus for people to rush out and buy the Wii because people can pick one up whenever they want to now. Momentum is a tricky thing, it may be hard to get back because of how the Wii feeds on word of mouth, if the number of sales going into the word of mouth system dries up then the engine driving more people to buy Wiis could be slowing down.
Tease.
article seemed fine...i think some of you people just like to feel oppressed and make up situations in which the wii is always being picked on.

Yet Nintendo is still almost doubling the competition.

Excellent article, and should I yell out ps3 bashing since they mention ps3's lack of sales.

The facts in the article are generally correct. However, the slant/angle of the story is what is wrong.
The problem is not just Nintendo -- it is industry-wide right now. The economic malaise has wreaked havoc on a lot of items.
Also, there are other truths out there that have been pointed out that have been missed -- like the planned releases for the holiday season. (And they are on the European release calendar for 4th quarter: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2009/090731e.pdf)
Basically, there seems to me a very strong anti-Wii bias in the UK among those involved in technology there.
Finally, as for some of the other comments. The Wii has almost doubled its expected lifetime sales of all the analysts had predicted before its release. Many journalists don't know everything about what they are writing. And time will tell how many Wii units are sold, including if it reaches PS2 heights.
