Forums - Gaming - There are too many games being made into movies.

I think all big games that are possible to make into movies should be made into movies. There's always the chance that one will be great.

Review potential prediction (not using typical movie critic metric who reward French movies and such garbage):

Gears of War - 3/5 ***
Dante's Inferno - 5/5 ***** (I'm so excited for both the game and the movie)
Bioshock - 4/5 ****
Prince of Persia - 2/5 **
World of Warcraft - 3/5 ***
God of War - 4/5 ****
Uncharted - 4/5 ****
Lost Planet - 3/5 ***
Shadow of the Colossus - 4/5 ****
Infamous - 3/5 ***

Next should be Elder Scrolls, Alan Wake and Assassin's Creed
(also I hope Wolfenstein, Fallout, Fable, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, The Last Guardian, Zelda, Halo some day.. there's so many)

They've already made an Elder Scrolls movie.  It's called The Lord of the Rings.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

See? You've proved my point - games should be made into movies. The best game ever made was accompanied by the best movie ever made! :)

I disagree on this one... firstly it's a Warcraft movie, in particular to the franchise and not just the MMO, secondly it's being directed Sam Raimi who is a veteran of film-making with a respectful pedigree behind his belt (The Quick and the Dead / Spiderman / Evil Dead), it has the full support of Blizzard and Chris Metzen is co-producing it, it also has Legendary Picture doing CG effect... (Batman, 300). The force behind this film is huge and very promising, I think it will be both a commercial and critical hit. (To give you an idea Spiderman 1&2 are both 90+ on Rotten Tomatoes and Evil Dead is at 100 with its sequal @ 98, Sam has made some mediocre film before but nothing below the 3 star average mark and mostly above that)

Does it effect the games industry in a negative way? No. What it can do is bring more attention to the games. If, say, the Uncharted movie is very successful, it will hopefully boost sales of Uncharted and just generally bring more attention to the industry

All of them would flop.

I'm happy you didn't object to the whole list completely lol.

I'm with you. I stand corrected. WoW will be a great and very epic movie. I dunno how they'll incorporate a story into an MMO, but now that you reminded me about the resources behind it, Sam Raimi and everything, u got me excited. And other people should be too. The negativity in this thread is saddening.

It will be a damn big deal, and it's not just the MMO, Warcraft started as a RTS and has a very rich history, looking into all the media blowout lately and you'll see them mentioning Warcraft the Movie and only give mention to WoW as a reference to the film's pedigree. The story behind Warcraft is rich and deep and have given rise to countless novels.

And yes I think most of the prediction on the list are okay, even generous, depending on the director and studios behind them, most will be go from decent summer eyecandy flick to shitstorm brewing (I'm shallow so I can say without qualm that I love mindless action flick with a semi-decent plot such as the resident evil movies despite them butchering the conversion).

I also think Shadow of the Colossus will either be a masterpiece or totally shit 1 or 5 star, I really can't see it stayingg mediocre.

You also missed a few movie to film deal currently going the round including Kain & Lynch, Resident Evil 4: Afterlife (nothing to do with RE4 the game) and Castlevania

Trust me, you will only see some of them being made.

The Uncharted one interests me the most.

Oh, that makes it all clear then. Because a friend told me the movie is based on World of Warcraft, not the whole Warcraft world.

Yes, I gave them generous scores based on some upper potential of the films too, so the scores are not to be seen as a prediction of how it all will come out in reality.

I agree about Shadow of the colossus. It's very hard to imagine something middle ground.

Yes, I know I missed a dozen game-to-movies at least. But some don't interest me, because they're based on games I dont like much. Still, almost any movie can wery well be worth to watch in the end of course simply because it's good, even if u dont like the game.
