EA should be punished. I really hope their sports game will be the one that flops for once.

I think it's great that the UFC game was so successful. MMA is a new and exciting sport, one of the few that I care about, and I hope it will gain popularity and challenge boxing some day.

Why was the UFC game such a sales success btw?

I think it already does challenge boxing. At least, it does in videogame sales. It's running circles around Fight Night, and it has pretty much killed the Smackdown series. I think UFC 2009 was so successful because the sport was gaining immense popularity, and it filled a very needed gap.

Yeah, MMA is the most popular Non boxing pay per view event ever now.

Already beat wrestling... and i believe it's pay per view numbers crush CURRENT Boxing.  Only failing vs older boxing when it had stars.

It will fail. Without UFC backing it does not matter who is on the cover.

Actually for PPV buys/year, in the last two years - 2007 & 2008, UFC (not all MMA, just UFC) has received more PPV buys than boxing has and ever did in a year. However, if you look at the top grossing individual PPVs, the top spots are still dominated by boxing.

Boxing is still pulling in more per PPV (only do a few shows a year) but the UFC is pulling in more overall (usually ~12 shows a year).

As for the game....EA has said "MMA is not a sport", not even the Last Emperor will make this game marketable to the MMA fans (who are mostly net savvy, and know full well what EA has thought of their sport).

Top boxing cards crush ufc, overall ufc wins cause they have more ppvs.  The lack of a top HW(american) or even a unified one has "hurt" boxing well not really.  In Japan Boxing crushes mma or k1 in viewership 3 to 1 usually.

Actually Oscar just beat Tysons top ppv, so current one is top now.

How often do top boxing cards happen? Maybe once or twice a year? Not enough to match the growth of UFC, which is more important in the larger scale of things.

About the only problem with doing almost monthly major fight cards would be a lack of compelling bouts on a consistent basis. But with the expanding pool of up and coming fighters, it looks sustainable for the time being.

And last year's top PPV:
1. Boxing: Oscar De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao, Dec. 6, 1,250,000

was surpassed by UFC 100 which sold over 1.5m.

And for that, Dana White will be base jumping off the top of the Mandalay Bay casino.

Only hard core fans know who Fedor is.

And as popular as Randy may be, he does represent the last generation of UFC/MMA superstars, much like Chuck and Tito.

As much as I hate to admit it, Brock is a much bigger draw and more instantly recognizable to those relatively new to MMA. Same goes for GSP and to a lesser extent, Anderson Silva.

It's more of a question of who EA gets for the line up than who is available.

I was undecided on buying UFc until i seen brock lesnar in the trailer. The from that point i knew 100% i would buy it

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

Honestly, the spat between EA and Dana White is bad for everyone ...

Being that they see yearly releases, it is best for the genre to have a couple of big competitors that are on (somewhat) equal footing ensure that the best game possible is being made; the end result of this is that the high quality of these games would translate into more UFC fans buying the videogames, and more videogame fans becomming interested in the UFC. With EA making an non-UFC branded MMA game this has the double effect of hurting the potential sales of EA's game regardless of the quality, locking users into the existing UFC branded game regardless of the quality, and informing people about competitive MMA leagues outside of the UFC.

dunbya dubya F E whatever fan aint yahh.

Randy "The Natural" Couture is signed on to be in EA MMA...oooh-ooh! Didn't emporer dana issue an edict that all UFC fighters were banned? Also...according to White, EA said ""EA Sports told us, 'You're not a real sport,'" White said in July. "'We wouldn't touch this thing. We want nothing to do with this."

But, Couture was signed on by EA in 2007....hmmmm....somebody is lying, and I think the last name starts with W. I guess we WILL get that Fedor vs Randy fight after all.

I hope it fails, if not just for the fact that I can't stand EA.
