Forums - Nintendo - Possible to have the Wii running 720p, 60FPS with the stencil method?

(Please hear me out)
Anyway, I was thinking, that since the Wii has such fast memory, possibly faster than those of the X360/PS3, why not use that superfast memory in a better way? Instead of creating textures and loading those into memory, which takes up valuable resources, why not create a "stencil" of the texture, and have the GPU color it in, with no hit on performance? All the "environments" and character "textures" could then be loaded as black and white stencils, which would be colored by the GPU itself, allowing all the graphics to load directly into memory from the DVD. Since loading things from Discs take no hit on computing power, most of the power of the GPU can then be used in order to produce "Next-gen" effects like HDR, and Bloom. Also, since colors are generally really easy to display in high resolution, the game would be displayed in 720p, 60FPS. Is this viable? Why or why not?

Wii would be bottlenecked by its fill rate or shader performance I assume. Plus its memory isn't that faster - even assuming the embedded 24MB have a two-way 1024-bit bus you would get only 31 GB or so of bandwidth, which is slower than the EDRAM on the X360 graphics chip...

So, it's improbable?

Probably, if it could be done, HVS would most likely have done it already with the Conduit, or Nintendo with any of their games, given they know the Wii's capabilities intimately.

maybe it can
maybe it has

I believe Nintendo has an artificial limit in that they don't allow developers to make games run at 720p, anyway, so it would unfortunately be a moot point.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

It's memory speed was superfast compared to last gen in architecture. I'm not sure if the Wii has faster memory this gen.

Honestly I doubt anyone will try what you suggest. Can the Wii render 720p at 60fps. Well yeah of course it can. The limiting factor are the size. I would like to see an example of what your talking about though.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

the thing is that, even if its doable, players with component or composite cables wont notice and since the wii has no HD cables compatibility ,nobody would see that.60 fps is theoretically doable(HVS said they could do that just decided against that) .But other games can pull that(but other games besides shooters hardly benefit above 30 fps).So thats a lot of effort for mmm, not so practical things.
