Forums - Gaming - Microsoft: Next generation won't be definided by hardware....

This whole article would make sense if he wouldn't use "hardware" and "graphics" synonymously.

NATAL is still hardware. OnLive is hardware. New Guitar Hero peripheral is hardware. Of course they need to show something new, even if not just graphics. People won't buy the same games for a decade. They need some new surprise.
Will you buy Gears of War 3, or Halo 4, that would be same as the previous, only with new levels, more storyline, and only very slightly improved graphics? Well, maybe. But Halo 5 and GoW4 ???
Because that's exactly what the same hardware can offer on the long term.
In the previous generations, the surprise was shiny graphics. For Wii, it was motion controls. In the next generation, it will be something new again.

@Soriku

I have not seen nintendo make a move on software (not games soriku im speaking stricly off the system's software interface) or services, especially when we compare it to Microsoft's huge leap in entertainment via software and services.

I was just thinking this. If there are minimal graphical upgrades a couple years into the console life next gen, people will notice.

Well the gen is mainly defined by SW and services anyway. However, next gen there'll be a lot less complaints about the graphical capabilities of the consoles than this gen since everybody's gonna be HD.

Not true. Microsoft turned it into a Graphics war when they first entered, and then Sony did the stupid thing instead of playing champion veteran and took Microsofts mistakes and made it their own. Microsoft is seasoned enough in gaming to understand that you cannot stray from services and software. With all their experience with PC's, this shouldn't be a problem.

Follow the leader...

Well nintendo isnt making any move towards more software and services on there gaming system, so I dont know what you mean?

Nintendo isn't mkaing any moves toward SW or services?

Especially SW? Services is a bit lacking compared to the HD consoles, but SW?

Are you kidding?

Nintendo has always put out quality first party software. Pay no mind to that. They are only weak with services.

I am speaking of the user interface, the mii system, the wii ware system, etc.. I have not seen a significant improvement in that aspect. I mean they really should improve on it, you have no idea how behind they are on that aspect compared to the other two..

They need to release Xbox 3 in Nov 2012 with photorealistic graphics in my opinion, plus hardware supporting true 3-D vision technology and of course Natal motion controls included.

Everything for just $499.

I can't wait.

$50 XBox 360 a reality? Zing!

It's just that simple.

Still, they're gaming systems. And you'd buy them for SW...

@leo-j

Mii I agree but there's not much you can change for WiiWare...I mean it's just people making indy games and releasing them.

I know that dude. The PS3 is a testament that Software isn't everything though. Format stands above software with Sony this gen.

That's good i hope ms gets more amazing sales.
