Forums - Microsoft - Carmack: Rage runs faster on Xbox 360

OK!! I just saw the trailer. It indeed looks awesome; however, it just looks like Killzone 2 with cars and more brown instead of gray. Don't get me wrong, in no way am I playing it down. I am getting it for the only HD console I have, (see the signature), but it will be Killzone 2 in the desert with driving for 360. It should kill the rumors that 360 can't handle Killzone 2 though.

On another note: Damn that trailer was epic, you can set up turrets! And the driving reminds me of Jak 3. Fucking awesome graphics, finally I can have my own super graphics shooter like those PS3 owners.

By they way, do not base how good this game looks on pre-released screen shots.

There's a cavelcade of moving media called "veedeeeooohs" that are even better basis, especially in motion.

Ultibankai said:
Also, the PS3 is only having frame rate problems, not texture resolution problems like the 360.

PS3 has both. you misread.

Ultibankai said:
Therefore, both consoles are dragging their feet in some way.

Just the PS3 really.

you cannot prove they are using superior programming techniques in comparison to Sony's 1st party developers.

TBH you don't need to, "programming techniques" are so overrated, like the people who compare read speeds, in theory 2x Blu-ray should be faster then a 12x DVD, but in exection, it's not. You aren't going to big up the PS3 with flops with an inferior version of Rage chugging along, i tell you that much.

It's interesting and incredibly hypocritical that you say that though, when you suggest that ID need to adopt Sonys 1st and second party (Resistance 2, really?) development just to help the lame PS3 version get to almost up to par with the other versions.  You need to stop the damage control.

Just because you "think" this is a "Graphics God of a Game" doesn't make it so. Let the experts decide when it is released.

It's already been done.

@CGI-Quality: Do you see what I mean? This guy has an agenda, and at the top of the list of things to do, it's to pass the PS3 off as a piece of third world crap. Can you believe he really singled out R2, out of all 1st party/2nd party games, he chose Resistance 2 to prove a point. Oh and RAZ, it seems you misread. PS3 has frame rate problems, 360 has texture resolution problems. Do not try to spin his words to favor 360, when it plainly states in the (Full) interview what console has what problems. PS3 only has one problem, going by the interview, and is slower to catch up. 360 has texture resolution problems and is closest to the PC version at the moment. Oh and to respond to your "veedeeeooohs" comment, condescending much? I've seen the videos, so if you had read my post just before yours, you would have noticed this. And as I've stated before, Rage looks like Killzone 2 with driving. Even the smoke effects look similar. A multiplatform Killzone 2, that is what Rage is. << My Opinion, not to be taken as fact!!

PS: I can't believe I have to defend a console I don't even have, this much!! It's narrow minded people like RAZ that give others the wrong impression of a console through their negative views. I mean seriously, is it too much to ask to WAIT until the game releases to pass judgment on it. When released, if the game really is all that beautiful, then we can decide which console runs it more efficiently. Fair enough RAZ? This is a mid-development build, lets not take it as the definitive versions of the game, OK?

This really is more a next generation engine in that neither the Xbox 360 nor PS3 have everything this engine needs to perform at its peak. The Xbox 360 has the ability to render more complicated shaders than the PS3 and do it more efficiently at that and the PS3 has the media streaming advantage between the HDD and Optical drive to really do justice to the requirements of the streaming required of the engine. If any game justified an Xbox 360 GPU + PS3 CPU and system architecture (HDD + BR) along with a Microsoft programming architecture its probably this game.

Oh and yeah, of course they picked the best possible screenshot example to show and thats likely the PC running dual GTX 280s with processing applied afterwards. It wouldn't surprise me if they rendered the shots above at 10,000 by 6,000 pixels and down sampled it at minimum.

That got me thinking of how awesome a PS360 would be! LOL!  And by the way, doesn't the PS3's CPU allow for more complicated Physics and Lighting apps in game?  And doesn't the 360's (10 megabyte?) frame buffer have something to do with the frame rate advantage as well?

Yep pretty much all that.

Tease.

A PS360, with all the good stuff from both (X360 GPU, PS3 CPU, BR, HDD, etc) would practically be a next-gen platform.

Honestly, I think the next gen platforms will look very much like just such a beast, except a just a bit bigger/faster.

Yip, faster is the name of the game. Though the real important question is more performance per watt than performance per mm^2 now.

Tease.

Yes, it is, it really is......

there's some 360 screenshots up right now although I find them a little small ...

Wow...

Assuming this is a true screen, and not a bullshot, this game will give Killzone 2, Uncharted II, Gears of War and any other potential "console graphics king" out there a run for its money.

You need to cut the damage control son.

You're the one who brought up second party games as being the way to do things. Seriously, it's just the PS3s limitations coming into play, as we knew they would in the long term. TBH it's insulting to Jon & Co. that you suggest he's developing the wrong way just because the PS3 version can't keep up. Your damage control is sickening.

I have a copy of the issue, unabridged here in front of me, they talk about the texture issues and also mention that these are further more compounded on PS3 because the blu-ray throughput is slower.

So why did you ask why i was comparing screenshots when there's a cavalcade of moving media available?

It's very interesting that a multi-platform game should look better then Killzone 2 and run at double the framerate, it's also interesting that the 360 version seems to be much better.

Yet you immediately start preaching on the merits of Sonys first party "fixing" the games development. Disgusting. Trying to push that agenda is chilling to the core.

You're in the bargaining stage of denile here. You're playing damage control because techs next big thing isn't as big on PS3.

I've obvserved that behavior from him since my arrival on the Chartz. It's quite sad when you think about it.

I've noted even worse behaviour around you, especially with regards to Heavy Rains technical downgrades.
