Forums - Nintendo - My Theory as to why the Wii is selling so well

@ Stof

Edit: I need to sleep, right now...

Is called Post Traumatic Stress  DIsorder   Effect... (Legend is the most affected)

I couldn't tell if it was a joke thread or not...

Apparently you're serious?

Ok...you can say the things you said, but throwing FACT in front of them is HUGELY different than saying it's your opinion. It's the difference between horribly misguided flamebait and your own opinion.

It is NOT a fact that only Nintendo fanboys buy the Wii. I base this on the fact that I have 5 very close friends, none of them have owned a Nintendo console since the SNES.
I have more friends that have owned N64s and also GCs, but the fact that there are people buying Wiis that didn't own previous Nintendo consoles disproves your fact.

And is not a FACT that the GC was the worst Nintendo console. Perhaps in sales, yes, but saying it's the worst console is an OPINION.

I don't know where this flamebait came from, but you need to learn the difference between fact and opinion.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Wow, if this is a real theory.

Just a heads up...not everybody who has bought a wii bought a gamecube, myself included...(not counting that the wii is more or less a gamecube times two.)

Anyway, let me just throw out my opinion about your opinion.

There's no evidence to suggest only Nintendo fanboys are buying Wiis. There's actually PLENTY of evidence suggesting that NEW consumers are buying Wiis.

Didn't you read all the articles about handicapped, old people, middle-aged people, as well as plenty of regular videogame players buying the Wii?

It's clearly reaching out to new demographics. What isn't known is how long it will last...but there is NOTHING to suggest it will just suddenly die for any reason...

Besides, most Nintendo fanboys weren't that displeased with the GC as far as I know...and being displeased with a console is not going to get them to run out and immediately buy a Wii...that logic doesn't make sense.

I love this thread. Well, the 1st few posts are the best. This is very funny. Thank you for creating such a wonderful thread. I never bought GC but I do have 10+ GC games (although most of them are complications of games from previous systems).

currently playing: Desktop Tower Defense (PC), Puzzle Quest (DS), Trauma Center New Blood (Wii), Guitar Hero III (Wii), Ghost Squad (Wii), Actraiser (SNES), Donkey Kong County (SNES), The Legend of Zelda (NES), Kirby's Adventure (NES)

will play next: Paper Mario (N64), Golden Axe II (Sega), NiGHTS (Wii)

What is in your opinion the worst Nintendo console?

@ Konnichiwa,

I agree that the gamecube was the worst console when compared to Nintendo's other ones, but that doesn't necessarily make it a bad system.

Currently Playing: Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart 8, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Super Smash Bros for Wii U

Predictions:

Super Mario Galaxy will pass Super Mario 64 in total sales CORRECT!

wow, that should be a warning right there. Those aren't facts, those are opinions, and they are obviously biased.

ok i'm sorry, then those are opinions.

Actually at least one of them is not an opinion - it is flat out wrong. The DC came in last last generation, not the GCN.

The statement that it's the worst Nintendo console ever isn't even debatable unless you clarify your terms. The only objective standard that can be easily applied - sales - clearly shows the Virtual Boy the reigning Nintendo loser.

As for fanboys being the only ones that buy it, that flies in the face of everything we've heard about the Wii's demographics. Hell, my FATHER IN LAW bought a Wii, and he wouldn't know the difference between a Mario and a Pac Man.

And the numbers just don't pan out. Those same fanboys (and you do imply they are the same) didn't flock to the GameCube like this, so for you to be correct, half of all GCN owners have already grabbed the Wii, and were so anxious to do so that they stood in line for hours, even as late as August, in order to get one. And these are the same people that took years to buy a GCN last gen!

This makes zero sense at all. You fail logic.

If I were to read that first post and not know who the poster was, I'd think it was a sarcastic post by Gballzack.

So wait... this isn't sarcastic?  I'm confused.  Oh well.  If it's not there isn't going to be much intelligent discussion in here, and there won't be any joking, or awesome screenshots and game information.  Consider those 3 reasons are the only reasons I ever enter threads I'm outa here lol.

I'm sorry...this is really just sticking in my head. You can totally ignore everything I said, just answer this, if you're still reading this thread:

"Fact 1 - Only Nintendo Fanboys buy the Wii - this is a well known fact" How is this a well-known FACT? Where is there anything at all to suggest this is occuring?
