Forums - Nintendo - UFC coming to Wii, portables. Yearly installments likely

Following the success of the UFC 2009: Undisputed in the PS3 and Xbox 360, THQ is now moving to bring mixed martial arts into the Wii and the handhelds. Having shifted nearly three million copies, the publisher is now considering expanding into more platforms and even yearly installments like all the other sports titles.

So says THQ through an investor call:

We plan to launch games based on UFC on an annual basis and to build this franchise with new technology and game play, additional platforms and increase sales outside of North America as the UFC brand continues its global expansion.

Brian Farrell of THQ was a little more specific:

Over time, we plan to build our UFC franchise by expanding international sales and by developing games on new platforms such as handhelds and the Nintendo Wii.

Even though I don't care about wrestling, it's good to see THQ supporting the Wii with something that isn't shovelware (or Deadly Creatures obviously)

UFC is not wrestling - it's mixed martial arts. it is nice but i would rather pick 360 version up than wii/psp versions.

Yeah, it's MMA. Looking forward to PSP rev on the go.

THQ are a wierd bunch.

first they say wii sucks for hardcore now they back on the band wagon but probably a lame game anyway.

Cool, I guess. I predict next year the 360 version will outsell the Wii version and people will claim it's because there weren't previous games on Wii to build up a fanbase. Not saying whether these people will be right or wrong, just that they'll say it.

"Now, a fun game should always be easy to understand - you should be able to take one look at it and know what you have to do straight away. It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy

EA has a better game coming which features the top fighters in the world (not just the US/UFC) including Fedor and Randy Couture; I am not sure what systems it is on though, but it is something to look forward to. Considering how much better EA sports/fighting games have been in the past over THQ, this is the one to look forward to.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

i don't care about the names - i will just get a better one.

Why don't thay alternate Wii/DS/PSP versions one year and 360/PS3 the next? They have to use different marketing anyway and it stops them doing an EA to the franchise.

Tease.

All of the Wii WWE games suck, so how is THQ going to pull this off with UFC? UFC Undisputed has so much depth, and it hasn't even begun to scratch the surface of all the moves you can do in MMA. I will not completely judge it until I see it. All I know is the WWE Smackdown vs Raw games are poorly made kiddy versions on the Wii.

That game will not sell well if it doesn't say UFC on it. Do not expect it to come on the Wii if it does. It's kind of like How Pride Fighting never made it to any other platform besides playstation. This game could be good. I have a lot of dream matches that I'd like to create without creating fighters in UFC Undisputed.
